It all depends on who you know. The drug scene keeps to itself for the most part. If you happen to walk into it by accident and realize you don't want to be there, you can quite easily walk back out of it. Or you can just take a seat and watch the scene play out. Students tend to have different opinions about the presence of harder drugs, depending on their own personal choices. It just goes to show that if you aren't seeking, you aren't going to find. There's no big bad drug dealer knocking on your door at night with a coat full of little bags. Straight-edge people are a strong population at Beloit, and nobody gives them guff for it. I think we're all grown up enough to accept that if someone doesn't want to do drugs, someone doesn't have to do drugs.
Weed practically lives up to its nickname at Beloit, though. It sprouts up all over the place, and it is just about impossible to get rid of. But a simple "nah" will do to avoid the stuff entirely. If you are a pot smoker, you're in luck. Getting caught is rather painless; plus, you already have something in common with a large percentage of the student body before you even step onto campus. Make friends with the type of people you want to make friends with. You'll be alright.
