Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Beloit College is like a room in your own home. The campus is pretty darn safe; the only real problems arise when people act stupid or irresponsibly. Campus security is always strolling through campus, looking for a chase, but they usually just get a “Hey, how’s it going?” from the students passing by. There is definitely a good rapport between students and security officers. They are people we feel comfortable with, and we know they’re watching out for us, even if that means calling us out on inappropriate behavior.

Students generally don’t feel safe walking around the town at night—myself included. It’s just not a good idea, especially if you’re by yourself, and especially if you happen to be female. Campus, though, is safe. You can rest assured that those security officers can and will recognize a non-student intruder and will escort them outside our comfortable bubble if they can’t give a good enough story.

I Feel Safe and Secure

Have not heard of or experienced any issues so far this year. I feel safe and secure. It is always important to be aware of your environment and be smart. It is always advisable to not go anywhere alone at night.

Semi Safe

Beloit's campus usually feels safe, and the town of Beloit feels safe during the day time.

Last year a townie pulled a gun on a student, and earlier this year a student was stabbed while walking off campus at night.

Not Too Shabby

Although there is a lot of crime outside the campus in the city, the campus itself is very safe. You never have to worry about walking from one place to another late at night as long as you are on campus. Stealing is not a huge issue. The security officers are awesome. They are helpful and understanding and really cool just to talk to. I think the relaxed alcohol policy helps make the campus a safer place to drink. No one is afraid to call security if their friend has had too much to drink because they know they are just going to try to help make sure they are safe instead of try to get you in trouble.
