College Prowler Take

Parking on the Beloit College campus is like a very exciting game of Monopoly. It takes forever, but if you win, you feel a real sense of accomplishment. It’s true what they say, you’ll always be able to park somewhere, but it may not always be where you wanted to park. And if you’re driving, say, a giant 10-person burgundy station wagon around campus, chances are it’s going to be a bit problematic trying to get your huge piece of car into a space. But, whoa, can you haul a lot back from Wal-Mart!

If you have a car, people will want to use it or want you to use it to bring them somewhere. If you don’t have a car, you can find some nice sucker whose parents bought them a new car for graduation to cart you around. Or one of your friends may also have a car. Or you can hold your horses until Wednesday night for Students Activities to cart you around in the Beloit College vans. Having a car is definitely not necessary, considering the small size of the school and its proximity to essential places. You can walk to downtown Beloit where the bookstore is. It’s not something I would fret about.

Parking is sometimes difficult if one wishes to park, say, directly across the street from their dorm. Otherwise, there are places within a few blocks where parking is usually available. Some say that it is crowded, but it is actually a much better situation than on larger campuses.

Sometimes, I hear Beloit makes it complicated—like, you can park on one side of the street on certain days but not on others—it’s peculiar. If you are planning on bringing a car, you are going to get asked to borrow it a lot!

Parking is sparse, and it’s really easy to get ticketed. There are too many cars on campus and not enough spaces and lots. Beloit does not want to encourage many students having cars, so they don’t create more room. It’s not wise to bring a car unless you really need it, or unless it’s a really little car.

What parking scene? I strongly suggest a bike. Parking is often nonexistent in the lots, and parking on the street isn’t safe. Please, bring a bike.
