Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Let’s get one thing straight: Beloit is not for everyone—and thank God, because we only have so much room here. There is a certain bond with people who have gone to Beloit, who have seen its idiosyncrasies first-hand, who know the weirdos personally and still keep nicknames for them. A four-year trudge through the thicket of Beloit education will put anyone in shape for a new challenge afterward. Some will say “if I survived Beloit College, I can survive this,” while others will boast “Beloit College has prepared me well to face challenges head on, and it has made me confident that I can survive anything.” Either way, they’re right. Beloit is good at making a paradox out of itself.

People either love Beloit, hate Beloit, or both, but it is pretty much guaranteed that whatever you feel for Beloit, it will be strong. Beloit can definitely provide students with an amazing experience if you use your resources right. Study abroad options are spectacular, and an overwhelming amount of students end up in a different country or a different part of the U.S. at some point during their four years. Beloit most certainly is a school that has the ability to change your life, or at least, it can give you the resources so you can change it up yourself. I’m telling you, for a small school, it’s got a lot of bite to it.

Overall, I see Beloit as a place...

Overall, I see Beloit as a place that offers a good education, but little in regards to helping me grow socially as an adult. If you know what you want to major in, and Beloit offers it, then you will get a great education. If you do not know what you want to major in, then Beloit is small enough that you can get into a variety of classes without a declared major, so you can explore. As an individual who did not know what I wanted to major in, I felt that my options were limited at Beloit. I knew that I wanted to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, but despite Beloit’s good reputation as a school that can facilitate study abroad experiences, I had a tremendously daunting experience trying to find a program for me. I declared a major that I love, but I wanted more. Feeling trapped, I took a semester off after two and a half years at Beloit. By the end of that semester off, I had decided to transfer to a larger public school. The hardest thing about leaving Beloit was leaving the people who had impacted me greatly.

I think Beloit is a great place to get an undergrad degree, but four years is more than enough time for me at Beloit.

Wonderful

I truly love Beloit. The academics are nothing to argue with, the professors seemingly go out of their way to make sure you're on the right path- this isn't saying that anything's easy, however, you really do work. There's a great emphasis on writing, but the Freshman seminars really help prepare you for that. My dorm is excellent (i have sinks in my room), and people everywhere are so friendly, which may just be the midwestern atmosphere (im from connecticut). There are downfalls with area, so Beloit is certainly not for everybody, but if you make it work, you will find something perfect for you. It's become my home.
