During the first two years at Bentley, many of the courses taken will be general education requirements, which can be a bit frustrating. You may not be eligible to take a course in your selected major until junior year or second semester sophomore year, if you are lucky. Bentley offers a variety of majors and courses, but selecting early is the key to success. Once you begin a core for one major, it is very hard to transfer to another and still graduate on time. But if you have trouble, the Registrar's Office may be able to help. Academic advisers are also great when planning out your course load, in particular if you have a double major or are planning on studying abroad.

The professors at Bentley are often real-world professionals with a lot of experience under their belts. They often go out of their way to ensure that students understand the material and are always willing to meet with students when they have a spare moment. The teaching styles of professors vary from having only a traditional midterm and final exams to writing journal entries every night to offering extra credit for watching The Apprentice, but you can expect group work as a standard in any class.

Actuarial Sciences

The Actuarial program at Bentley is superb. I passed an exam freshman year and sophomore year and then took a year away from exams to study abroad. Now in my senior year I am taking another prep course for my third exam in May.

  • Bentley offers a Fifth Year Program, which puts students on the fast track to a master's degree, accomplishing both a bachelor's and a master's program in, that's right, five years.
  • Bentley offers a double major LSM program, which enables students to graduate with both a BS and a BA.
  • Each semester also includes a day off before the beginning of finals called "Reading Day" to give students a break and supposed study day.
  • Each semester on the night of the last day of classes, students will celebrate the beginning of finals with food, music, and fun during "Breakfast by Moonlight."
  • Every freshman is required to take Freshman Seminar, a half-semester course that prepares them to face real life at Bentley. It is taught by an upperclassman, as well as a staff and faculty member.
