Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Bentley school spirit is lacking overall which is unfortunate given the success of many of our teams throughout the year. Students are enticed by the head of athletics to go to games and by the promotion of free items such as T-shirts and towels. However, the stadium and courts aren't usually packed with wildly cheering fans unless the team is in the playoffs. Some students just use the games as an opportunity to pre-game for parties later.

There is a harsh stereotype that exists at Bentley regarding student athletes: if a student is good in their sport, it means they would have never gotten into Bentley for their grades. Varsity athletes are rarely taken seriously by the rest of the population but are given significant leeway academically if a game or practice interrupts or overlaps into a class period. The biggest up-and-coming sport on campus is hockey, which plays in Division I. Men's and women's rugby is on the rise in success and popularity on campus. Other clubs such as ultimate Frisbee, wiffleball, and touch football are also student favorites. However, sports like volleyball, tennis, and soccer are often overlooked and underappreciated. Bentley simply is not a school you go to hoping to be drafted into any sort of professional sport. Rather, it mostly has excellent high school athletes looking to continue their passion and stay in shape during their college years.

Most Popular Sports

Men's and women's basketball are both successful enterprises and continue to improve year and after year.
Football is also prized by many students, although it's not nearly as competitive in the league.

Most Overlooked Teams

Both the men’s and women’s rugby teams have been dominating their opponents in club play for the past few years; it won’t be long before they are officially recognized as a varsity sport and are considered formidable players in their division.

School Spirit

Despite being home of the Division II National Field Hockey Champions and having division stars in the women’s basketball and football teams, Bentley students are not oozing blue and gold. Because of the size, when students do watch a sporting event, they will most likely know at least one person on the team, and that is the main reason why they are there. The bookstore has started to carry more fashionable clothing bearing the Bentley name, which has caused students to integrate them into their wardrobe. Most students are proud to be Falcons displaying the Bentley gear but are not overjoyed enough to consistently display it.

Getting Tickets

Tickets are not required for Bentley students to attend University sporting events.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Along the Charles River Parkway that runs under Moody Street.

Did You Know?
  • Bentley competes in Division I hockey, and the rink is located off campus in Watertown.
  • The football field was used for filming in the Dwayne Johnson movie "The Game Plan."
