College Prowler Take

There is a harsh stereotype that exists at Bentley regarding student athletes: If a student is good in their sport, it means they would have never gotten into Bentley for their grades. Varsity athletes are not exactly taken seriously by the rest of the population but are given significant leeway academically if a game or practice interrupts or overlaps into a class period. The football stadium isn’t packed on the weekends with fans cheering wildly, but games are used as a way of “pre-gaming” for a party later on that night. The biggest up-and-coming sport on campus is hockey, which plays in Division I but is still struggling as it gets used to the tougher competition.

Devoted rugby club players are trying desperately to become a recognized team, but the interest shifts from year to year, and essentially, if there isn’t one student dedicated enough to take charge, the club will disappear. Bentley simply is not a school you go to hoping to be drafted into any sort of professional sport. Rather, it has excellent high school athletes looking to continue their passion and stay in shape during their college years.

Many people are so involved with their own activities that it seems like no one has much time or desire to go watch games. Our athletic facilities are great, however. Many people play intramurals.

Varsity sports are very popular at Bentley. The allure of free items always bring a lot of students to the games. Men's basketball is probably the most attended sport at Bentley. The intramural and club sports teams are also very fun. I am on the club ultimate Frisbee team, and I enjoy it a lot.

No one follows varsity sports here. The teams are D-II, so no one cares, and the D-I hockey team plays off campus at a terrible arena. IM sports are completely unorganized.
