College Prowler Take

If Campus Police can help you out, they will. They always want to help you get out of potential trouble first, and only if you talk back to them will you receive punishment. It’s not an unusual sight for an officer to pull up next to a student carrying a 30 pack to their dorm and ask to see the student’s ID. If the student freaks out and starts complaining about how his constitutional rights are being violated, chances are he will end up being escorted to the station and given a fine. However, if you do find yourself in this situation and are underage, don’t be stupid and just accept the fact that you were caught. Give the officer the beer politely, and you most likely won’t have to show them any ID, thus avoiding being written up, which can be worth the cost of the beer. The presence of Campus Police officers is hard to ignore, and generally, students like the idea of being safe and protected.

The idea of campus strictness can be viewed from another angle completely: the view from the classroom. The problems the campus has with students cheating on exams or copying papers has become an increasing concern to the administration. Their attempts to curb the problem include access for all professors to plagiarism software and newly created and enforced guidelines to convict a cheater. The crime is not to be taken lightly, as Bentley is constantly lauded in the media for having one of the first centers for business ethics in the country. The penalty for being caught cheating is almost as severe as being caught with an illicit drug—suspension and/or expulsion. The administration is still trying to work the kinks out of their new system, but until they do, cheating is not something the campus condones.

The campus police are pretty good about the party scene. If you are stupid, they will get you for it, but as long as you're not way too drunk and stumbling around, they aren't a burden. Just be smart!

It was relatively not strict until recently, but campus police are starting to crack down. Usually a first offense related to alcohol results in a warning, fine, and maybe a class. We are allowed to register kegs in upperclassman apartments, providing that everyone residing in the room is 21.

Drinking is something that has been increasingly enforced on campus, but if you are of legal age to drink, it is not an issue, as the campus promotes safe, responsible drinking. Drugs, however, are not tolerated in the slightest.
