Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Bentley's state-of-the-art computer technology is visible no matter where you are on campus. There is at least one computer in each classroom, and many are equipped with computer consoles for each student. There are also power and network ports for each individual student’s laptop in about half of the classrooms on campus. In the front of each classroom, there is a computer hooked up to a projector that allows professors and students to showcase educational material, pull up a Web site, or run a PowerPoint demonstration on a large screen in front of the class. The laptops themselves are advanced, too. Bentley has collaborated with HP to bring students the most recent technology available. Often the school is the "test subject" for new hardward and software that is not even on the market. If there is a change or update, that is easy to access as well. The Computer Resource Center (CRC) is in the basement of the library and can help you work out any kinks, find and delete viruses, and repair any other issues. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and there is usually a reasonable wait time, if any.

The wireless network blankets the campus. This means you could be sitting outside on a sunny day, browsing on your laptop. Within the network, there are also many resources available to students. The “M: drive” is a resource that allows students to save files on a network drive that is accessible from any computer anywhere on campus as long as the student is logged in under their Bentley username and password. There is also the Bentley Virtual Lab, which allows students to access various programs that might be needed for use in a certain class. One thing is for sure—every Bentley student, no matter what major, will graduate with an advanced knowledge of the latest computer software and networks that will place them above the rest of college graduates across the country.

  • Bentley has collaborated with HP to allow students to work with their new Tablet PC to conduct research on Tablet PC usage and acceptance.
  • Bentley’s Trading Room, an accounting and finance lab with a ticker-tape display of real-time market data and constant financial news, was featured on CNBC. It was called one of the top 10 trading room facilities in the country and is by far the largest.
  • Each classroom is wired with an Internet console for the professor and Internet access at each desk for the students.
  • The entire Bentley campus is wireless; from the dorms to the athletic center; this includes all outdoor areas as well.
  • Every student is required to lease a laptop from Bentley, and it is upgraded to a newer version at the beginning of junior year. Upon graduation, you keep the laptop.
  • Not all professors allow students to have their laptops in the classroom, which they will announce on the first day.
