International Student POV - Picked Bentley over Babson

My time here has been awesome! Bentley attracts really nice and brilliant people that make you stop and think, "Hey why didn't he or she go to an Ivy". The internationals here are amazing and friendly. Being an international myself, we all shared this open hospitality and friendship towards each other. I do wish I had a bit more American friends but it is hard making full-on American friends because of a wall most put up when talking to them. They still are friendly though! Challenge yourself here!!! Do not just take classes that will boost your GPA otherwise why are you in college?!?! Make use of every opportunity here and there are many; work hard, and play hard as well! Bentley has a much better atmosphere than Babson. A nicer campus and the people here make it worth your while!! I am VERY HAPPY choosing Bentley over Babson! Academics and reputation here keep on improving!

New England Weather

New England is known to have pretty random weather. One day it's freezing and you have your heat up, the next, it's 70 degrees, followed by more rain and then snowstorms. It's annoying at first but you get used to it. The stairs and walkways here are all heated for safety reasons in the winter, so you don't have to worry about slipping on ice on your way to class. Each dorm room also has it's own AC/heating unit to make the weather more bearable regardless of what it is.

A Lot of People Are Involved.

Campus gets pretty wild on the weekends. People pretty much trash the dorms and there tends to be beer cans and puke everywhere. If you don't want to be involved in this, you can typically find something fun to do in Boston, or just lay low with your friends and ignore it as much as you can.

Finance Is a Huge Focus at Bentley

The school pretty much wants to breed Finance and Accounting geniuses, so if one of these is your major, you'll have a lot of choices for classes and activities, a lot of individualized attention, and a really strong general business background before you even begin your specialization.

It's Pretty Good.

The shuttle service to Harvard Square is really good because from there, you can take the subway into Boston and pretty much get wherever you need to go. The only trouble is on the weekends, it tends to get pretty crowded, so you have to really hope that you get a seat on the shuttle or else you're stuck at Bentley, unless you want to pay expensive cab fares.

Computers Are Awesome

They get new, high end computers often. The wireless connection can be spotty sometimes.

Some tips

Choose to go random with your roommate freshman year! Lots of people chose people they met at orientation but they quickly found out that their roommate wasn't who they thought they were and things turned sour.

Bentley sends out like 50 emails a day which can get annoying but they're about networking events, career events, and other opportunities to make the most out of your experience here.

Freshmen have to go to a few plenary sessions (info sessions) about alcohol (big one!!), rape, diversity, etc so be prepared for sitting in the auditorium bored out of your mind.

Don't be one of those people who have to get carried away by an ambulance within the first week of school for alcohol poisoning.

Getting Businesses on Campus/ Meet and Greets

Opportunities for students to meet business executives from very reputable companies, inclduing Ernst and Young, Boston Red Sox the big four, etc.

Convenience

Hourly shuttles running at all reasonable hours - longer on friday and the weekend. Free for students and makes almost anywhere you might want to go accessible at the very least

Greek Life

Greek life is possibly the tightest network on campus. Most students percieve it just as the ultimate party scene, and it's true, those within the system wouldn't consider partying elsewhere. However, it is much more than that - My roommates have all gained internships through Greeklife alum and go to weekly community service projects with their perspective orgs.

Achieve

These students tend to be career driven and are looking to obtain a top education. There is extra help avaliable not only from the professors but from the writing center, math center, the surplus of avaliable tutors, etc. Bentley works hard to help students achieve.

Wireless Access

Bentley University has fantastic wireless access for all of its students 24/7.

Diversity is here

There is a good amount of diversity but not much interaction between the groups. Too many Mass. kids thou.

Who U R Changes What You Usually Do

internationals: go downtown and club up to 4 times a week

americans: on campus parties which can be lame

Its New England...

The weather sucks in the winter and is nice in the spring and fall. Its New England what are you gonna do?

Housing = Good

Dorms are a lot bigger than other schools and its easy to have friends come to campus

Many Options in Waltham

Not many student discounts that I am aware of, but Waltham has a ton of great options, many that deliver on to campus. Various ethnic restaurants around town as well.

Best of Both Worlds

Bentley is in Waltham which is close enough to Boston for it to be accessible but also far enough away to be away from the bustle. Also Waltham is a city itself with its own restaurants and things to do.

Small,

People just throw smaller parties. Nothing really huge. Kind of low key compared to other schools.

Network Reliability

Very good, rarely does the system ever have a problem, and when it does, it is fixed quickly

Nice Dorms

Great size dorms, heat/air conditioning, carpeting, and great social atmosphere to meet people!

A Great Atmosphere

There is a shuttle to Waverly and Harvard Square, giving you lots of things to do. Also, you can easily get into Boston. The atmosphere is really nice and has a great campus feel.

I Got a Scholarship

The only reason I was able to go to Bentley was because they awarded me with their President's scholarship, which covered about half of the tuition thankfully. I think they do pretty well with the scholarships, and my financial aid is covering the rest almost, so they're good there too. Each semester I get book advances so I don't buy my books, Bentley does. And if there is ever anything I can't afford, I can always call someone and they'll help me out, whether waiving the fee entirely, or advising me on what to do.

Safety/Security

I have never felt unsafe or in a dangerous situation. Bentley is a closed campus and is safe for the most part.
