Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Snow in April and shorts in November—these two events are not all that uncommon of the typical New England weather in Waltham. The area easily sees four very distinct seasons within the school year but with random days of other seasonal weather interspersed. You could be in a winter coat one day and shorts the next. Upon arrival to school in September, shorts and T-shirts are still common, but the change from late summer to fall can occur in an instant. The fall is a beautiful and comfortable time of year; with a slight autumn chill in the air and beautiful fall foliage, the campus really comes alive. Winter is typically brutal, with a few months (usually December–March) of freezing cold temperatures and an always decent amount of snow, meaning winter clothes are a definite necessity. But don't forget shorts or possibly a bikini, there is plenty of sun in the fall and late spring to lounge on the Greenspace and work on that tan.

It is most certainly important to be prepared for all types of weather, from heat to rain to humidity to snow and everything in between. It’s typical New England weather—it can change by the hour.

New England Weather

New England is known to have pretty random weather. One day it's freezing and you have your heat up, the next, it's 70 degrees, followed by more rain and then snowstorms. It's annoying at first but you get used to it. The stairs and walkways here are all heated for safety reasons in the winter, so you don't have to worry about slipping on ice on your way to class. Each dorm room also has it's own AC/heating unit to make the weather more bearable regardless of what it is.

Weather

It rains a lot in the fall and then snows to much in the winter. The air is always cold and it is rare when it is not windy. There are a few good weather days where it is sunny and warm, but these are generally early in the year, and after spring break.

New England

The weather will change on a dime here in New England. It is one of the most volatile weather areas in the country. Snowing one day and sunny and hot the next.
