The career services vary. It takes week's to book an appointment which is very inconvenient, and the student must come prepared with questions so the career counselor can better assist the student. But when I have used the services I always received helpful information.

The resources are average. I really only use the lab when I need help finding information about internships and resources.

The school is diverse, economics vary, and people generally mind their own business.
College Freshman 2013-09-24T00:35:04Z
There are no athletics on campus, and many of the teachers do not have a Linkedin account. The school is average for a city college

Wireless network available available practically everywhere on the campus but can be very slow at times. Some public computers available for students with student IDs (annoying if you don't have one) but a lot of them are older models and also run slowly on the network.

BCC doesn't have much to offer in the ways of student resources (besides the library and student lounge that I've seen) and these seem kept up and tidy.

The student body is extremely eclectic. If you are looking for people of every walk of life, Berkeley City College is the place for you. From recently graduated high school students to adults going back for their college education, to military veterans (young and old) from every background imaginable-- I can't imagine describing a 'typical student' as there is really no such thing. For the most part, the student body has struck me as surprisingly motivated. Most people I have met know why they are there and where they want to go, and are dedicated to their classes. Of course, for every rule, there are exceptions-- many classes I take have a fair amount of people drop out of them by the end of the semester.

There are lots of online classes available. The software that is used, Moodle, is very flexible. The hardest part was figuring out the new URL for each semester - it seems that they could have figured out something that used the same URL each time and just redirected you. The quality of classes ranged from great to okay, depending on how much the instructor had formed the class specifically for online instruction. Time management is key with the online courses! A big frustration is when you are assigned giving feedback on your fellow students' work and they don't turn thins in until minutes before the deadline.

There was a wide range of ages, backgrounds, etc. I would say that classes skewed a little young, at 39 I was often the oldest student in my classes. However, my fellow students were, for the most part, serious about their studies while being friendly and approachable. I didn't exactly form friendships that will last forever, but I did meet a lot of interesting people. The majority of students are there for a specific purpose - i.e. getting a professional certificate or transferring.

There are many options for evening, weekend, and online classes at this school. I was able to get every class I needed and still was able to work full-time. The most difficult are the lab classes. There are few evening options for that. So, plan ahead if you need to take a lab class! The counselors were very good at pointing out which classes would transfer. If you are transferring to a Cal State or UC, then it is really quite simple to figure out.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I felt that I received a good value. The financial aid that I received was in the form of a fee waiver, but I was never sure if that was going to continue the next semester, or the next year. I would have liked a little more communication on that; but to be fair I didn't reach out to them very much. The fees are reasonable - be aware that you are paying a fee for a transportation pass but you have to go in and pick up the pass yourself, they don't mail it to you!

Berkeley city is not very unique or different from any other school. The only thing I would say is unique about it is that it is a smaller school in which there is only one building for all the classes and departments.
Recent Alumnus 2013-04-22T20:51:28Z
Berkeley city is not the biggest school, so the resources on campus are limited. There is no athletic department or many campus activites. The school does have a reliable student center and library, but other than that it falls short in comparison to other schools.
Recent Alumnus 2013-04-22T20:41:48Z
The computer network at the school is exceptional, the only reason I did not award it an A is the fact that to use the printer at the school you hmust go through a vigorous set of steps. To use a printer you must buy a card from the college cashier office; in order to do that you must show proof of classes and a student ID.
