Apartments Are Expensive – Boston is a place for schools and there are also lots of school around and i think that is why our apartments are so expensive. Its is easy to find apartment but its all about having the money to pay.

There Is a Drug Scene, but There Is No Pressure – Berklee has a no-drug policy, but the don't seem to enforce it very strongly. It is extremely easy to find drugs because a good portion of the school does them. However everybody is very accepting of others, and although you will find a ton of people who do drugs, none of them are going to pressure you. They will probably offer, but if you say no they will respect that. It seems that you fall into one of 4 groups. The drinkers who stick to alcohol, the druggies who stick to pot and other substances, the partiers who do both, or the straight edge's who don't do anything. However whatever you are you will have friends in all of the groups and everyone gets along great.

Not Great, but Looks Like It's Improving. There are only 3 dining options at Berklee. Archie's is a good place to go if you are in that building for a class, but you don't usually go out of your way to eat there. 939 Cafe is convenient and the food is good. And the Caf is ok in small doses, but its main entree's have a long way to go before I'd consider them "good". However breakfast at the Caf is a must, very delicious. I suggest not getting the full meal plan after your freshman year.

Don't Expect to Be Helped Too Much. Getting financial aid at Berklee is very tough, and a very uninvolved process for the most part. There really isn't a lot you can do to help your chances, short of practice your instrument a ton. The biggest scholarships are either skill- or need-based, so there isn't much you can do in the way of applying for them. Every so often, the school dishes out some aid to certain students, but there aren't really any patterns.

Live Downtown, Leave Your Dollars. Finding a place to live near Berklee isn't terribly hard - if you're willing to pay. Berklee is in a very high end neighborhood, and affordable places are few and far between. However, a few minutes ride away on the train or bus and you can find yourself in Allston, a much more reasonable area for a college student to live.

Better Bring Your Wallet. The cafeteria at Berklee is very average. A few decent options, but mostly the same things every day - very similar to a high school cafeteria. However, the school's location in the heart of Boston makes dining options off-campus very open. Unfortunately, the price you pay is almost not worth it if you have a meal plan, because you can get more than enough food at the cafeteria without overdrawing your meal plan.

Very Relaxed Environment. Generally, everyone on campus was very, very easy going. Unless something serious was committed - something that might interfere with not only the offender's education but also those surrounding him or her - punishments did not go much further than a slap on the wrist most of the time. All Berklee is really concerned about is the final product. How you get your work done, and what you do when you SHOULD be getting your work done are entirely your responsibility.

Apple-Exclusive Campus Is Infinitely Productive. At Berklee, all the students use Apple computers almost exclusively. Every student is required to have their own Macbook Pro, and specific music technology software. In the time I spent at Berklee, I never needed to use any of the computer labs - all of the equipment I ever needed at any point was provided to me, personally, by the college on my Macbook. However, I spent some time in the computer labs extracurricularly and there were some very exciting things going on - frequent seminars and very complex but easily accessible software.

Students Learn in a Very Hands-On Environment. I studied for a semester at Berklee as a guitar principle student, which essentially means I had yet to declare any major, so I studied my instrument. My playing improved tenfold in the short amount of time that I spent at Berklee, as did my knowledge of music theory. All of my professors were extremely helpful and genuinely interested in the success of their students. The atmosphere that Berklee creates is one of encouragement towards personal improvement. The entire process was also very enjoyable.

Everyone in Berklee has the access to use the many facilities of Berklee College of Music: the recording studios, practice rooms, music production and engineering rooms, the library, ensemble rooms, recital hall, performance center, and many more. Facilities are very modern and one of the best of its kind in the world. Those who major in Music Production & Engineering would sure be grateful to have this kind of opportunity.

Um... What? Berklee does have a few athletic teams. Pretty much, though, they're non-existant. Berklee's focus is on music and not athletic.

There's Nothing Like It – Unlike other universities/colleges, Berklee specializes in the field of music. And when an academic institution specializes in one field, so does its student body. Everyone in Berklee is united under one mutual interest: music. It's not unusual to see random people chatting together after they talk about their musical taste, as well as watching people starting a jam session outside the main building (150 Massachusetts Avenue) or the other housing (270 Commonwealth Avenue). When it comes to quality of life, most students are extremely happy to be here. They get what they wish for: to learn music from the very best.
Many artists come to Berklee each year to do clinic session as well as teaching a couple of classes. For example, during the summer John Mayer came to the Five-Week program and jammed with the Rock Workshop group. Andrew Bird and Paula Cole did clinic sessions, which were greeted by the participants of the program very warmly and cheerfully. The life in Berklee College of Music is full of opportunity to maximize the students' potential in studying contemporary music. When it comes to it, there's nothing like Berklee College of Music.

Not Too Great, Not Too Much – While the housing itself is average, the quantity of students the housing can hold is ridiculously low.The number, which is currently standing at around 800 people (or 20% of Berklee's student body), suggests that most students would have to get an off-campus housing sometime in their years of study in Berklee College of Music. In addition, the price tag is jaw-dropping-ly high, even compared to that of BU, BC, and Northeastern. Having on-campus housing, though, is a great advantage because you get additional facilities like laundry, practice rooms, etc.

There's the T, and There's the Bus – Public transportation is highly accessible in Berklee College of Music. The closest T (subway) station is the Hynes Convention Center, which is passed by the Green Line (B, C, D) and takes riders to the downtown and the city. The bus station is located right in front of the main building (150 Mass. Ave.)

Learn from the Best – Berklee College of Music attracts the best musicians from around the world to study in its main campus in Boston. There is one reason why this happens: because Berklee is the best in the world in its field. As the world's largest college for contemporary music, Berklee College of Music has an amazing group of faculties that are true experts in their fields and they give maximum support to their students.

No Greek System – Berklee College of Music doesn't have Greek Life system. I mean, what's the point of having it? Everyone is happy the way it is in Berklee.

Why Berklee Is Amazing – I'll keep this short, Berklee is one of my favorite places I have been in my life so far, and it is home to me. It is one of the most, if not the most, diverse school by ratio in the united states, yet the people are more friendly than almost anywhere else I've been. Its truly a global community. The music opportunities are the best of any school of its kind. I'm a drummer, and my drum teacher is a grammy winning drummer (Rod Morgenstein) who I looked up to growing up as a drummer, and then I get to take lessons with him! And its not just the drum department that is like that, its the entire school.
On top of all of this, Boston is an absolutely incredible city. My favorite city that I've ever been in in my entire life, even topping New York City. You get the big city feel while still being able to breathe a little bit. It's also the youngest city I've ever been in, as the 60 something colleges that are in the area create almost a city of college kids.
In summary, if you're a musician and you are serious about music, there is no better school or city than the Berklee College of Music in Boston. period.

Being that Berklee is located in Boston's Back Bay district, there are multitudes of places to eat. For student discounts, there is a long line of restaurants just above the fast food level right across the street from the main building, where you can get sushi, subway, fried foods, burritos, coffee, and just about anything else you can think of. These restaurants accept Berklee card as a form of payment as well. Moving on from there though, if you want a more upscale eating experience, Boylston and Newbury streets are right next to Berklee and have many incredible restaurants, from local gems like Trident (one of my personal favorites, my friends and I eat there almost once a week, great atmosphere too) to international favorites like Max Brenner's. Anything you could possibly want to eat, you can find it and walk to it in 10 minutes or less.

At the Berklee College of Music, Academics are all music. Each semester you will probably take a single liberal arts course, but other than that every course is music based. The core curriculum is made up of Ear Training, Harmony, and Arranging. After completing those core classes and declaring a major, your workload becomes purely focused on that area of study. Many choose the Music Production and Engineering major which finds its students in one of Berklee's 10+ studios working on projects and mixing music, sometimes until 6 in the morning. Other majors like Performance majors will spend most of there time "working" in practice rooms improving their instrument.
The true work of Berklee happens outside of the classroom though. One can make A's in all of their classes and then go sit in their room and do their home work for their whole career at the school, but when they graduate they won't have many places to turn. The true magic of Berklee is the networking. Basically, the more people you meet and the more people you make music/record music/write music/play music with, not only will you learn more than you could in any of your classes, but you are also making the contacts and friends with whom you will probably be working with once you are out of the college. Balance the networking and classes, and you have yourself a straight A shot to what the college can provide.

Off Campus – Living off campus is rather interesting. First of all, you aren't connected to the practice rooms anymore, but there is more freedom. Living off campus allows you to have your own schedule and forces you to learn how to live without a supervisor to help you out all the time. I prefer this because I like to cook my own meals.
College Sophomore 2011-06-14T00:39:09Z
Computers are a huge part of the Berklee classrooms. Each class has a different tool that is used on the computers, and each student is required to have one. Not having a computer would be completely irrational.

When I first entered into Berklee, I knew that the academics were going to be incredible. They truly create an environment that helps the students learn far more from their teachers and fellow classmates more than the average school. The registration process was a little crazy, but it was still quick and straightforward.

Financial Aid should be available for the Summer Session. It is hard to pay tuition out of pocket & not have federal funding or loans to assist.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
