I attend Berklee College of music; for my line of intended work, there is no school better. Professors at Berklee have Grammys, they have real world experience, they've toured around the world. They've not only been successful in the industry, some of them nearly run it. When you have this kind of guidance in your life, mixed with the added pressure and gift of a Berklee curriculum, the possibilities are endless.

Berklee has a very consistent cafeteria located in the main building, but sometimes the food can be to consistent with the cafeteria atmosphere; they never shake things up! Boston being a college town, the food services around Berklee are stacked with so many delicious options, its making my mouth water!

As an Electronic Production and Design major, I will be working on becoming efficient at working with hardware musical synthesizers, as well as applying them to compositional situations. Interning consists of creating music for podcasts, youtube channels, or any other online service where this type of music is popular.

Guys & Girls:
Some guys are very handsome where as the girls on campus are always on point and sexy.

If it isn't within walking distance a quick ride on the subway or a city bus is inexpensive and can get you within walking distance of your destination.

Boston is a college town. It is easy to meet people, there is always a cultural event, many places to chill or drink or eat or find entertainment. Professional sports teams and a great baseball stadium make Boston one of the best places to attend school. The downside is the cost of living.

students are generally left alone to make their own decisions after being given the rules and consequences of breaking them. The school is very strict about enforcing the consequences if you decide to break the rules.

Their are seasons, so it's beautiful in the summer and fall, but it gets pretty cold in the winter.

If you put yourself out there and make friends, nightlife can be fun.

It really depends on who you hang out with and who you associate yourself with. Drinking is a popular activity amongst the older students, but you can avoid drugs by staying away from the people who do them.

Students don't use cars. They use the "T" the subway. It's very good and one block away from school.
College Senior 2013-04-25T22:52:27Z
Transport in general is excellent. The T is at most a fifteen minute walk from anywhere on campus and is pretty reliable even though it can get kind of crowded. It's decently priced (something like $1.50).
Bus transportation is better in terms of effectiveness, and you can get a taxi anywhere. To get out of Boston, you can take the train at the end of the green line on the T, and the airport is fifteen minutes away.

There are some clubs that promote dancing, frisbee, and Berklee has a hockey team...but that's about it. There isn't a gym as of yet, but there's a rumor that they're putting one in in the new building (160 Massachusetts Avenue).
College Senior 2013-04-25T22:10:21Z
Occasionally there are some decent apartment parties near the college, but they can get pretty cramped pretty quick. Try to venture out to other colleges who have more of a party scene. Transportation in general in Boston is awesome, BUT the T stops working around something like midnight, so you'll have to get a cab if you're gonna stay out late. The good bars and clubs vary, but there aren't very many for those who are 21+. At least not in the area.

Boston is most likely the biggest college town in America. There are college kids every where I go and especially in the area I live in, Allston, MA. There are also plenty of places to go eat that range from pizza to Egyptian/Mediterranean cuisine. Also one of the best attractions out here is the Massachusetts Art Museum, I definitely recommend heading over there.

I'm not all that satisfied with being a performance major. Since it was so easy to get into, I feel as if it was not really worth it. Part of the reason is because I have other interests other than performing such as production and learning how that process works. I believe that in order to survive in the music industry, you need to have a variety of skills under your belt and that's exactly what I want to do. So, I would say the performance major was not the right fit for me, but it helped me realize that there are plenty of other possibilities out there for me.
College Junior 2013-03-30T18:44:27Z
Getting into the performance major was actually fairly easy. All I had to do was sign up and partake in an audition, get some paper work signed by a couple of my professors and the head of my department, and that was it simple as that.

There are few places that a music student could have so many options as to what major they would like to pursue. The workload for a student planning to double major will probably be quite a bit, but for somebody doing a single major the workload should be just right. For some it may feel like a lot of work to be here because music is never given a rest. If you aren't working on your harmony or ear training homework, you are in the practice room or playing in whatever way you can.

With Newbury street a couple blocks away there are tons of restaurants in downtown Boston to check out. They may not all be the most affordable for college students but there are plenty that are in a more student friendly price range. Many restaurants and nearby stores even except the Berklee card which is the student ID everyone must carry at all times. Money can be transferred to it by the student or their parents.
College Sophomore 2013-03-28T04:59:36Z
Because Berklee is in the middle of downtown Boston, there is not quite a campus like one you would normally see, although a new skyscraper is being built to accomodate the increasing number of students. I like the current facilities a lot, however they are pretty crammed with over 3,000 students every day. There are places to exercise very near to the school such as the tennis and racquet ball gym. I have found that it is not hard to find help around campus from student centers etc. There are a lot of extracurricular activities to attend and they are definitely not all solely about music.
College Sophomore 2013-03-28T04:48:41Z
I think Berklee is a very supportive environment for learning music, and with the sheer amount of people here you will always have somebody new to meet, jam with, or just learn with. The small class size is key to learning all that we can from the teachers here. Mentorship is very important as well, and I feel that I have a number of teachers here that I could call my mentor, which I could not be more thankful for.
College Sophomore 2013-03-24T20:48:28Z
When it isn't finals or mid-terms you can find jam sessions all over the dorms. School is really intense so most students don't really party hard. Those that do generally wind up not succeeding and dropping out. Still a great atmosphere for musicians of all kinds!
College Sophomore 2013-02-25T15:56:58Z
The computers are always open and ready to be used. If your in a hurry to print the lab instructors will give you a desktop and you'll be set to go. The printer always have ink too!
