Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

First and foremost, Berry is not for everyone. People who realize this do so early on and typically end up transferring; however, for the students Berry is for, it can become a second home and one of the most amazing times in students' lives. Berry has a community feel, which is unique when compared to a large school. The professors, students, faculty, and staff all strive to make Berry an experience many want to relive. The leadership opportunities are unparalled to other schools because many students have created the positions they currently hold. Questions like, "Are you involved?" don't come up; rather "How many clubs and organizations are you in?" and "What job(s) do you have?" are conversation-starters for many students.

In addition, Berry is not a party school. Of course, there is the occasional off-campus party, that is usually busted for underage drinking, but because Berry comes with a $33,000 price tag, many students are not willing to waste that type of money and put their academics before anything else. All transitions into college are difficult, but Berry offers many different support systems throughout campus to maximize your potential. One complaint heard campus-wide is about how strict the campus can be. For instance, there is an attendance policy at Berry that you won't find at other schools. If you miss more than three unexcused absences, your grade is subject to being docked. While the complaint is a valid one, it's not likely to change and is something that is heavily enforced. In some departments, missing one class may mean your grade is in jeopardy, so make sure an absence is absolutely needed and cannot be held, or that there is communication with your professors to make other arrangements (e.g., sitting in on an earlier section of the same class). They are very flexible and willing to work with you; after all, they are there to see their students succeed.

Computer Labs

There are at least 6 computer labs on campus and at least on Mac lab in the Laughlin building. All of the computers are usually fast and are used for a variety of things, including last minute assighnments. The labs and computers are usually only filled up during finals, registration, test days, or when papers are due. They have now implemeted a printing limit of 500 units, meaning one sheet front and back is 1 unit color is 5 units and so on. The campus network is reliable usually but you have to find the best places to get wifi. The campus is completely wireless (some areas outside of buildings included). A personal laptop is useful and a printer is too depending on if you would rather just use your printing units or like me use my units when needed and my oersonal printer when I am in my room and do not feel like going to a lab or the library to print.

Too Many Girls

The guys are great, but there are not enough of them. There is about a 70% girl population on campus.
