College Prowler Take
Okay, so Binghamton is not going to win any campus beauty contests. The older buildings are unattractive red brick, the dorms were designed to look like prisons, the newer buildings are concrete and glass behemoths, construction blocks the scenery, and absolutely nothing matches. If you are majoring in 20th century ugly architecture, you should definitely come to Binghamton. However, in terms of functionality, Binghamton overachieves. The computer labs are modern, the lecture hall is large and well lit, the science buildings are constantly being upgraded with new equipment, and the school is always adding more to the campus. Already, the new Union has added a lot of space for campus groups, a new dorm community will ease overcrowding, and the new field house will provide another training facility. Function over aesthetics—what do you expect from a school shaped like a brain?

The facilities here are amazing. The dorms are large and relatively well maintained. The dining halls have a variety of food to appease almost any appetite. The buildings are easy to navigate, though the library takes some experience to get around. Overall, the campus has a simple layout.

The facilities are pretty nice. There are two gyms on campus, a pool, and a pretty nice events center. The libraries are all nice, too. The main library on campus is always open, and it's a comfortable place to study.

There is a gym called Fitspace if you are into working out, but you have to pay something like $130 for the year to have access. The equipment is good, but it can get crowded during peak hours. It’s definitely not the ideal fitness center. There are two main athletic facilities on campus—the West and East Gym—both have Olympic-sized pools and weight rooms. The new Union is incredible; there are new offices for student groups and student government and a new bookstore and mini mall for food. |

The facilities are good; I can’t complain about that. The athletic and computer facilities are great if you use them; they’re super-convenient. The University Union is also new and improved since the mini mall is in there now. That is where we have all our publications and student organization offices. The newspapers, radio station, television station, post office, and bank are all there. There are also places to get munchies, play billiards, go bowling, and rent videos. |

There are two gyms. One is for recreation, and the other is for classes and sports or something like that. They’ve built a new field house. There are two pools, two tracks, a soccer field, tennis courts, basketball gyms, racquetball courts, and other things. Most of the buildings are not new; they’re very reminiscent of the ‘70s or something, especially the furniture. There are a few buildings, however, that are noticeably more recent than others. The library is also not bad; it has a lot of books, even fiction literature for ‘fun’ reads. The top floor recently got redone, and the union recently added a new building. There has been a lot of construction for whatever reason, but it’s not as bad as it was two years ago. There are also nice grounds with a woodsy feel to them. Trees and grass frame most of the campus. |
FactsWhat To Do on Campus
When they are not in class, students can burn off some calories at the gym, catch a basketball game or other sporting event at the Events Center, grab a snack at the Food Court, participate in intramural sports, or just relax with friends in their dorm communities.
Favorite Things To Do
The Union is always crowded around lunchtime, and people often go to the libraries as much for social reasons as academic ones. When the weather is nice, people swarm to their dorm community quads to read, play Frisbee, or just soak up the sun.
