Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It would be dishonest to say that drug use doesn’t happen on campus, because it does, just like at any college. But if there is drug activity going on, you almost never hear about it. Most students tend to stick to alcohol if they are looking for a perception-altering experience. Because of the low profile of drugs, there is little to no pressure to use drugs, so non-users don’t have to feel intimidated when they come to Southern. Substances such as caffeine and other drugs to stay awake are much more common than illegal substances, as students feel the pressure to study or write papers long into the night. You will most likely hear more about these instances than anything else going on in the world of substance abuse. But with any illegal activity, most people aren’t going to talk about it unless it’s really causing a problem. Unfortunately, Campus Police tend to be much stricter on those offenses that are drug-related than those that are alcohol-related. Therefore, it is an unspoken rule that if you want to do drugs, you’re much safer going off campus to do them. They are more lenient on alcohol-related offenses because some students are actually legal and can drink by law. Overall, the drug scene at BSC is very hush-hush and not something you would encounter unless you seek it out.

Just Say No... to Paying for Drugs.

Southern is like any other college- a LOT of kids smoke pot (especially those ATO boys), and other drugs are available-- if you look for them. If someone has weed, that someone quickly has several new friends, and on a campus as small as Southern those bonds can last your tenure at the school. Adderall is hardly even considered a drug on campus, but simply a study necessity-- and anyone can tell you where to find some.
