Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nearly all the facilities at Birmingham-Southern are new or newly renovated. The Norton Student Center is the place for eating, socializing, finding books, buying necessities, and mailing letters home to mom and dad. Norton is usually the place on campus with the most activity, but not far behind is the Striplin Fitness Center. The equipment is new, and there are even reservable private rooms. IM sports are played there, and there is an indoor pool for relaxing. Nearly all of the academic buildings have been renovated, and the newest addition is the Elton B. Stephens Science Center that has high-quality labs and equipment. Furthermore, the staff at BSC is very good about maintaining all of the facilities. There are always people outside working on the grounds and perfecting the landscape, as well as a friendly maintenance crew that is quick to take care of problems. The administration has talked about a complete renovation of the dance and sports education buildings, as well as ongoing renovations for the dorms. There is always something that is being improved so that students can have access to the best facilities possible. Aside from the buildings on campus, students can also enjoy a striking view of the Birmingham cityscape that really enhances the aesthetic and overall appeal of the campus.

Many New Facilities

The facilities at BSC are impressive. In the past several years, the College has added 2 new dorms, an apartment community, a football stadium, a new gym, and a lake habitat. There is also a state-of-the-art science center, and renovations on our new all-you-can-eat Caf were finished earlier this semester.

Dorms Are Lame

With the exception of the brand new dorms for upperclassmen (Lakeview), all of the dorm options suck. The buildings are all old and moldy. They just put in a brand new dining hall, and we got a brand new lake area. The library is a good place to study, nice and quiet.

Dorms ...

Freshmen are required to live in Freshmen housing, but all the dorms on campus are quite adequate. New women's dorm opening this fall and I am in ... very excited. All housing is easily accessible to the caf and the stores and classes. Parking is another issue, but once you've got a park, there's really no need to move. It's all walking distance.

Favorite Things To Do

Students can be found enjoying one of four yearly productions provided by the College Theater, drinking Starbucks in the Attic, throwing a Frisbee on any available grassy area outside, or eating lunch under an umbrella in Alumni Plaza.

You can work out or take a swim in Striplin Fitness Center, look at the current art exhibition at the Durbin Gallery, do the ropes course down at the Ecoscape (the outdoor classroom and garden), see the exhibit at the planetarium, or catch poetry readings and local bands at the Attic without ever leaving campus.
