College Prowler Take
Greek life is a huge part of the social scene at BSC, but both Greeks and independents tend to mix very well here, and the philanthropy events and many of the parties are open to everyone, so it never really feels like there is a barrier between those who are Greek-affiliated and those who aren’t. Also, the Greek system has a late Rush, which happens two weeks after school starts, to ensure that people can get adjusted to their classes and the people before they start making any decisions about whether they want to go Greek or not. The first two weeks of school are carefully guarded because sorority and fraternity members are not supposed to wear any of their Greek attire or talk to any of the incoming freshman about their organization. After rush starts, however, they are allowed to tout their fraternity or sorority as much as they want.
There are plenty of other ways to get involved on campus if you are not Greek. Some people say that it’s easier to meet people through the Greek system, but many swear by good old-fashioned people skills as well. There are some events catered to non-Greeks, such as Squid Day, a relatively new addition to BSC. While there are some people on campus who feel there is a great divide between the two groups, the school is so small that you end up getting to know most people anyway.

This school is so Greek it isn’t...
This school is so Greek it isn’t even funny. Seriously, I think BSC is the only school in the world in which I would’ve joined a fraternity. It’s ridiculous. I went from not knowing jack about fraternities to Mr. Frat Boy in a matter of weeks. |

It does dominate the social scene,...
It does dominate the social scene, but for the most part, it does not affect the good time that I have on campus. I do not feel closed off from anything or any part of campus, and I am a very socially-active non-Greek. |

Greek life is pretty big on...
Greek life is pretty big on campus, but I think we have a pretty even percentage. I say it is pretty big because, even if you aren’t in a fraternity or sorority, you will more than likely go to parties thrown by them. Most people participate in campus-wide Greek events, and just about everyone, at some point in time, is somehow affiliated with a fraternity or a sorority. |

Greek life at BSC is pretty...
Greek life at BSC is pretty intense. People get caught up in it, and that can lead to some undue rivalries between organizations. That being said, going Greek is a great way to make lifelong friends very quickly. Additionally, most people in leadership positions on campus are Greek, and the Greek GPA is considerably higher than the independent GPA. So, there are pros and cons, but if you're motivated and sociable, you won't have a problem either way.

Greek life definitely dominates...
Greek life definitely dominates the social scene, only because a huge portion of the student body is Greek. Most of the parties are held at the fraternity houses, and some of them are invite-only or specific for certain sororities and fraternities. If you are not involved in Greek life, you can still go to parties and have a good time, but it’s easier to get involved if you are Greek. |
