College Prowler Take
When people reflect on their college experience at Birmingham-Southern, they usually talk about what great opportunities they have access to, and what an outstanding education they’re receiving. For the price of the school, there’s got to be some kind of long-term benefit. It’s no secret that if you graduate from BSC, then you’re pretty much guaranteed to get a job in the metro area right out of college. Students also talk about the lifelong friendships they formed, and all the different kinds of people they met while at Southern. It’s the kind of place that alumni love to come back to and reminisce about, as well as encourage their kids to come.
The whole school feels like one big family. While there are struggles, it seems as though everyone at BSC is looking to improve upon their mistakes and make it a place that everyone can enjoy. The administration is always changing curriculum to fit the needs of the students, and the students are always challenging the faculty in order to improve upon the status quo. Academics are a high priority at Southern, but it’s still possible to have a life while you’re here, as well. BSC is an exception to most of the stereotypes for the region, because it is always growing and changing. Some people come to the South and expect to find people in the Dark Ages. At BSC, however, it’s clear that people are looking towards the future.

BSC has opened up so many new doors for me. I wouldn’t trade anything for the memories I’ve made and the lessons I’ve learned. Would I be anywhere else? No way. You learn to love everything about what you ‘hate.’ The dorms can be the worst place in the world at times, but you learn to love them because of the people you meet and the memories you make while you are there. The faculty can drive you up the wall, but they’d also bend over backwards to help you if you really needed it, and they push you to succeed because they want you to be the best and do your best. The food may be so bad that you don’t eat for a few days, but all the fun road trips with your new friends to Wendy’s at one in the morning because you’re starving makes you appreciate the ‘bad food’ after all. BSC is a great place to get an education, and I wouldn’t change anything about it! |

Words cannot begin to capture my enormous satisfaction with Southern. My first year on campus was greater than I could have ever imagined. I formed lifetime friendships, which made me happy, and I excelled in my academics, which really made my parents happy, so BSC has been a wonderful experience for my whole family. |

I have loved being at Birmingham-Southern, and I wouldn’t trade my experiences with anyone at any other school. Sometimes the classes are difficult, but the teachers will help if you ask. The people are extremely friendly, and everyone always has a smile on their faces. I think Birmingham-Southern is a great school for anyone. |
