Approximate Parking Permit CostParking Permits

College Prowler Take
Finding somewhere to park on campus is not a difficult task. Finding somewhere good to park on campus, however, can be a chore. The amount of parking spaces available is comparable to the number of people on campus, but sometimes this means you will end up parking a good five- to ten-minute walk from where you need to be. There was talk in the past about creating a parking deck, but funding efforts and plans never seemed to materialize. Although the school is expecting an expansion in population in the future, parking is an issue that has already been addressed with the addition of several lots around campus and some minor zoning changes. In general, parking is always easy to acquire at least somewhere on campus, and the permits only cost a yearly fee of $25. If you do get a ticket, there is a ticket-appeal process designed so that students can dispute any unfair or ungrounded offenses.
Having a car on campus is not really a necessity, because everything is within walking distance. Most students bring cars out of luxury or for the few trips they may make to other parts of Birmingham during the week. Once you get inside the gates, you may park your car and not need to use it for days or weeks at a time. If there’s really an issue, then there’s always the option of dialing 4700, and the Campus Police can drive you out to your car!

Parking depends on what time you come and go. It’s competitive, and you should keep an umbrella handy in case you come back and it’s raining, because it may be a walk. However, compared to other campuses I’ve been to, ours is above-average convenient. |

Parking on campus is horrible!...
Parking on campus is horrible! Nine times out of ten, you will end up parking your car 10 miles from your dorm, and I don’t even think our campus is that big. Okay, so I’m exaggerating a little bit, but you get my point. I mean, sure, you can park your car and then call campus security to come and pick you up and drive you to your dorm, but it’s not worth the wait. Some days, you get really lucky and you find a really good spot, but chances are you’ll end up moving your car later on that day, and you’ll never park there again. That’s just the way it is. |

It’s easy to find a parking space, but it is very difficult to find a parking space anywhere near the dorms. While you can always park, you might be looking at a five- to ten-minute walk to where you need to be. |

Parking, particularly near the dorms, is somewhat limited. If there’s one big thing on my list to change on campus, it would be to create more parking. |

It is usually pretty easy to find a place to park on campus; the trouble is finding a spot that is convenient for you. A lot of the time you end up having to park in ‘far-east Buddha’ in the middle of the rain. It gets more difficult to find a spot during sporting events. |
