College Prowler Take
While most colleges located in urban areas can pride themselves on their public transportation, Birmingham-Southern cannot. There are means of public transportation available, but given the location of the school, it is far more feasible for students to drive themselves or at least make friends with students who have cars. Buses drive by the school several times a day, but they are usually on their way to parts of town that students do not generally frequent. Similarly, there are very few students who make use of cabs, unless they’ve gone out and had too much to drink. If it is entirely necessary for a student to use local transportation, the best place to get information about it would be on the Internet.
Also, the campus is so small and inclusive that almost everything you need can be found on campus. If there is ever a time when a student needs to be taken somewhere on campus, however, the Campus Police will come like knights in shining armor and escort them to wherever they need to go. Also, it is not uncommon to hitch a ride with someone who might be headed to the other side of campus. Some adventurous students bring bicycles to get around, but the campus is constructed like a cross-country tour and lacks areas with sidewalks that are good for biking. The most common means of transportation around campus is by foot, and any other means are usually too complicated to deal with.

I think you can get a pass or something for the city buses, but I think they mostly go to the downtown areas, which aren’t where college kids tend to hang out. |

There’s a Metro Area Express (MAX) bus that always stops in front of the school on Arkadelphia Road, but I’ve never actually seen anyone from BSC use it. |

Most people aren’t even aware that there is public transportation available, simply because there isn’t any information about it from the school. People tend to hitch rides instead of relying on the city to get them where they need to go. |

Public transportation is not very accessible in Birmingham. If you’re willing to fork over the cash for a cab, then you’re okay. Also, Campus Police is well known for giving students rides to wherever they need to go. Occasionally, the Student Government Association will provide transportation to and from places like Southside in Birmingham for students. |
