Great weather for the area...summers are nice, while the winters are cool
College Junior 2013-11-21T22:11:07Z
There are a lot of places within walking distance to the campus.

Im not sure of any Greek Life on the campus of Bluffton.

From what I have seen on campus, the dining is very well organized.

We don't have greek life

We don't only have internships, we get field work early on in our education, in fact each year.

Bluffton pretty much accepts anyone but a lot of people end up dropping out or transferring because of the rigorous coursework.

There are a lot of fast food places but only a few dine-in restaurants.

I don't agree with a lot of the (religious) rules on campus and think Bluffton should do a better job at meeting students' needs and wants. I am mostly here for the education program because it's one of the best in Ohio.

Overall, the dorms on campus are old-most of them were built during the 60's and 70's. The newest dorm on campus was built in 2003. Only two dorms have air conditioning. The social atmosphere varies from dorm to dorm, and underclassmen can live on the same floor as upperclassmen. I lived in Ropp Hall, and in my experience, girls from different floors will get to know each other with no problem. For the most part, it's that way in each dorm.

Athletics are a big part of Bluffton life. Usually, over half of the student body participates in sports every year. We recently built and opened the Sommer Center, which includes a gym for volleyball/basketball, a fitness room, locker rooms, a multi-purpose room, athletic trainers office and room, and offices for each coach.

Parking on campus is convenient and close to the dorms and classes. However, there have been problems with students not being able to park in the normal spots due to no space, and therefore parked illegally. Parking standards were changed this past year to where anyone could park anywhere on campus, and several students have complained that they had to park in a lot way far away from their dorm. Some were education majors who had student teaching, others were normal students. Hopefully, it will go back to the way it was.

The drug scene at Bluffton University is not very noticeable. I don't know of any people that have done drugs on campus. The only known drug-doers are those that smoke. Drinking is more known about, and is a more popular activity.

We are in Ohio so it snows quite a bit and the college never closes. I commute so that can get bad if there is ice on the road. We have plenty of rain in the spring that can not be good walking around campus. it is nice when there are nice days!

I am very happy with my college and major. There is plenty of opportunity to work for experience at my college with all the sports. I can work with sports information which I love and it is good experience. There are several courses that help and being a small campus it is good because I can get to know professors and for them to know me and what I want and need to do to help me succeed.

There are very few restaurants in the small town we are in. There is a coupe pizza places and a Mexican place in town to walk to, other than that, all fast food is far enough away that you have to drive and many people on campus don't have cars.
College Junior 2013-07-26T21:09:37Z
It was easy to get into my sports management program. there is no special process. Once in, there are people to help tell you what you should take what year.

There is a computer lab with plenty of computers and printers. wifi is good. It is nice to have your own computer but should print there since you pay for it.

Bluffton has an annual President's Scholarship competition students can participate in where two students are awarded full tuition coverage and two receive 3/4 coverage of tuition. Based on your need, Bluffton awards scholarships and grants to needy students. I received a few scholarships and a grant, and all have helped so far.

Bluffton's ethnic and racial diversity is somewhat diverse; many of the students come from small towns nearby, and others come from near big cities within Ohio. The international students present help diversify the campus, though. Most students consider themselves Christian, and there are several different denominations present, including a number of Mennonite students. Also, there are a few Muslims, a Jew, and several agnostic and atheists too. Sexual orientation has been a big issue, since Mennonites as a whole aren't sure where they stand on that issue.

Bluffton University does not have Greek life. It is a Christian institution.

Health & Safety:
I have always felt safe walking around campus at all times of the day. Even at two in the morning when no one is around, I feel comfortable. Campus security patrols campus after dark and all during the night, so I feel even more safe. There is barely any crime on campus, but when there is, it is handled properly and quickly by the local police. In my co-ed dorm, though, I like to lock my door for safety-just in case.

There is tons of student life activities and clubs that students can get involved in at Bluffton. It is harder to not be involved than to be involved because there is a group or organization that is of interest to each student. If there is a club a student wants to start then they can create their own club at Bluffton. Most of the student life organizations were started by students who had in mind a club they wanted to create and they made it. In addition, this past year Bluffton opened up a new building called the Sommer Center which is a health and fitness center. The Sommer Center is the new location for our gym and includes an indoor track and amazing workout room that is open to all students. The Sommer Center is a great addition to Bluffton and is a place that all students can g to and use.

Bluffton provides a variety of different fields that would be suitable for all types of interests. I am an Education major and Bluffton has a great Education department. All of the education professors I have had bring a lot of previous knowledge and apply that to their teaching which benefits us as students. My first semester at Bluffton I was already out in a school doing field experience. I have been in several other local schools since then and even worked one on one tutoring students. My senior year I will be student teaching where I will be able to control a class under the teacher's supervision and make my own lesson plans. This experience will prepare me for my own classroom someday and show me places I need to improve on and what teaching styles work best. Since Bluffton is a small college I feel as if the professors take more time to work one on one with students and they truly care about your studies.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
