BJU students take pride in the University’s high academic standards. The school’s strict regulations may turn off some, but BJU’s academic excellence is often a selling point; it even has the nickname "Christian Harvard." The University excels in fields of study such as business, medicine, and performing arts, and has high employment rates for graduates. The University’s professional atmosphere helps drive students to take their education seriously and work hard in pursuit of their goals. For example, if a student’s GPA drops below a 2.0, the University puts the student on academic probation, which excludes the student from extracurricular activities and even University employment. Along with stellar standards, BJU also has high-quality professors that are friendly, professional, and encouraging, with the goal of glorifying and pleasing God while helping guide students spiritually and academically. BJU’s professors and advisers can be easily contacted by students for assistance concerning assignments, academic planning, and spiritual counsel.
BJU has its strength in academic excellence; however, it does have some shortcomings. BJU was accredited by the Transnational Accreditation of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) in 2005, which is valid only towards Christian colleges. Therefore, transferring to non-Christian institutions from BJU is very difficult. When choosing BJU, current students advise incoming students to be firm with their decision.
