There is no safer place than BJU! But some students complain about the University's overprotective atmosphere, with the campus police (Public Safety) on call 24 hours a day. Before midnight, Public Safety patrols both on and off campus to make sure that all buildings are locked and safe. Ironically, right off campus is a dangerous place to walk around after the sun goes down. Robbery, rape, and prostitution do happen once in a while. Female students are not allowed to walk off campus by themselves after 7 p.m. For students’ safety, Public Safety locks campus gates at 7 p.m., and students must use their University IDs to open campus gates, which prevents strangers from accessing campus property. According to some students, they feel protected since they know that all of the gates are locked. Parents of BJU students can take comfort in the fact that their child is well protected while away from home.
The sole health service on campus is Barge Memorial Hospital. Barge provides limited services, as well as rides to a local hospital if needed. The Campus Store carries cold medications, as well as first aid, but at expensive rates. Current students encourage incoming freshmen to come with their own medications and first aid kits.
