Binghamton University Students Tell It Like It Is

The question that this book attempts to answer is not whether Binghamton is an excellent school, but rather if Binghamton is an excellent school for you. Even with all the information this book provides, getting the feel for a school's true personality is a hard task, and choosing the right school among so many can prove overwhelmingly difficult. The goal is to explore your needs and options and make as educated a decision as possible. As for exploration, be it academically, personally, or socially, it is a major part of the college experience. If I can offer one piece of advice, it is to look for a school that not only matches your personality now, but also affords the most opportunities for exploration.

College Prowler offers more than the typical information the universities give you. When making your college decision, will you consider...

The area nightlife...

'I am not much of a club guy, but the bars are hopping. The Rat is packed on Fridays and Saturdays, and Ice House is pretty filled on Thursdays. There are frat parties all the time.'

The local atmosphere...

'This is a classic example of an economically depressed, post-industrial, upstate New York town. Fifty years ago it was booming, but now all the industry has left, so it's very working class. The east side of town is not a place you want to be at night. On the other hand, the people here are really down-to-earth, if a little sheltered from the outside world. The region is totally beautiful, and there's cool stuff here that one might not expect, like some really nice architecture, a zoo, a pretty active arts community, and stuff like that. You have to seek it out, though. Campus is kind of removed from the town, so it's easy to get stuck in a campus-only frame of mind.'

Binghamton University may seem like it's located in middle-of-nowhere upstate New York, but is it really the cultural wasteland that some would make it out to be? Remember that college life outside the big city can mean greater convenience when it comes to things like parking and finding housing off campus. Depending on your tastes, Binghamton may just be the perfect fit.

The College Prowler Process

While writing our series of college guides, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. By hiring current students as authors, we strive to create college guides that truly represent each campus. Our guides cover both the good and the bad, and whether survey responses point to recurring trends or varying opinions, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.

From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion. Once a guide is written, additional college students serve as editors and check for accuracy even more extensively. This same process is applied to all of the 258 colleges and universities College Prowler currently covers. Each guide is the result of endless student contributions, hundreds of pages of research and writing, and countless hours of hard work. All of this has led to the creation of a student information network that stretches across the nation. It’s no easy accomplishment, but it’s the reason that our guides are such a great resource.
