Davidson College Students Tell It Like It Is

Urban legend has it that President Woodrow Wilson attended one year of college at Davidson in 1873 before transferring to Princeton. The rumor claims that Davidson was too difficult for the future president! So is the College all it's cracked up to be? The College Prowler guidebook can help you decide!

'This school is tough as nails. If you aren't interested in working your butt off and learning a lot, then don't bother filling out the application.'

But if you do fill out the application, you better know what the Code is?
'The Code' is an unspoken testament among Davidson students agreeing not to lie, cheat, or steal. The Code is the main reason why students choose to leave dorm room doors open and laptops unattended. Also, it affords luxuries such as community bikes and self-scheduled exams. Students can choose the order of their exams and when they want to take them during exam week, and then complete them unproctored in any room in Chambers.

Maybe there is some other stuff you should know:
  • 'The food is one of my few significant complaints about Davidson. When I ate at Commons last year, I was frustrated by the lack of traditional dishes that they replaced with a diverse ethnic food selection.'
  • 'For freshmen, Cannon offers the largest rooms, while those in Watts are slightly smaller. Belk is centrally located to everything on campus, but the rooms vary significantly in terms of size. Also, the mixture of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors there may be seen as either a negative or positive aspect. Richardson (just for freshmen), located closest to Patterson Court, also has the smallest rooms, with everything nailed down except the desk chair.'
  • 'The quintessential Davidson male looks like a mix between a Polo and an Abercrombie & Fitch model, in regards to their dress. An alarming number of guys wear loafers. The female population leans toward the preppy side as well, though instead of loafers, they tote Vera Bradley bags.'
Find out if Davidson truly has something for you, straight from the students' mouths.

Visiting campus isn't enough.

The College Prowler Process

While writing our series of college guides, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. By hiring current students as authors, we strive to create college guides that truly represent each campus. Our guides cover both the good and the bad, and whether survey responses point to recurring trends or varying opinions, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.

From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion. Once a guide is written, additional college students serve as editors and check for accuracy even more extensively. This same process is applied to all of the 258 colleges and universities College Prowler currently covers. Each guide is the result of endless student contributions, hundreds of pages of research and writing, and countless hours of hard work. All of this has led to the creation of a student information network that stretches across the nation. It’s no easy accomplishment, but it’s the reason that our guides are such a great resource.
