A key idea to think of is whether or not you can live in a particular college's local atmosphere for four years of your life. Are you prepared to invest the time and effort it takes in order to flourish at RIT, or any college for that matter? These are questions that can't be answered simply by looking at numbers and fancy pictures. Hopefully, the facts and opinions stated in this book will give you a little insight into the world that is RIT and help you to decide if RIT is right for you.'

A campus visit or a brochure just isn't enough to tell you if RIT is for you...the College Prowler guidebook will make you feel like an insider before you ever set foot on campus! With hundreds of quotes from RIT students, our guidebook lets students speak out on 20 different topics to give you a well-rounded look at life at RIT, including. . .
Nightlife:
'Rochester is a deprived city when it comes to nightlife. There are many colleges within a five-mile radius, yet there is little available in the way of college-level entertainment. It is damn near impossible for students to develop a favorite hang-out spot, due to the fact that new bars or clubs tend to overcharge or not stay open late enough. Nearly everything closes before 2 a.m., which makes for a short night if you don't get out of classes until 10 or 11 o'clock. Most RIT students find themselves better off either staying on campus or venturing to one of the nearby colleges (normally Genneseo or U of R). Most of the clubs often consist of a fine mixture of college students, high-schoolers with fake IDs, and Rochester natives?none of whom are very outgoing or social. Chances are, if you venture into downtown Rochester, you'll wind up talking to and dancing with the people you came with and not many others. Dance clubs are few and far between, and the music is either hip hop or techno. In short, there isn't much variety for the younger crowd.'
Guys and Girls:
'Finding someone to hook up with at RIT isn't usually too hard, but finding someone to date can be. There just aren't many people here who are interested in starting relationships because, with co-ops and everything, you wind up doing the long-distance thing for a good portion of your time here.'
'When discussing the social scene at RIT, there is no getting past the high ratio of guys over girls. Another common stereotype here is that all the girls have boyfriends, and all the guys are computer-science majors who never leave their rooms?this is not true?entirely. The ratio has increasingly been getting better due to the fact that the college has been recruiting more female students.'

The College Prowler Process
While writing our series of college guides, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. By hiring current students as authors, we strive to create college guides that truly represent each campus. Our guides cover both the good and the bad, and whether survey responses point to recurring trends or varying opinions, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.
From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion. Once a guide is written, additional college students serve as editors and check for accuracy even more extensively. This same process is applied to all of the 258 colleges and universities College Prowler currently covers. Each guide is the result of endless student contributions, hundreds of pages of research and writing, and countless hours of hard work. All of this has led to the creation of a student information network that stretches across the nation. It’s no easy accomplishment, but it’s the reason that our guides are such a great resource.
