Rollins College Students Tell It Like It Is

'Finding a college that fits your needs both socially and academically is the key to making the right college choice. Rollins has a lot to offer, which I hope this book conveys, but ultimately, you must determine whether you can see yourself here for four years. Certainly this is not an easy question to answer, but gaining a greater understanding of your potential choice is the first step to reaching a decision you will be happy with.'

Spending your college years in Florida might sound like a day at the beach, but there's more to choosing a school than considering your tan lines alone! The College Prowler guidebook to Rollins College will make you feel like an insider before you ever set foot on the campus, with hundreds of student quotes like these:

'The professors are awesome; no complaints there. They are actually dedicated to facilitating learning and not, 'this is what I do so I can do my research.' Even the gen ed classes turn out to be good. My sociology class was awesome, and I've had some other surprises, like canoe class (and no sarcasm here, this was something that I looked forward to).'

'The atmosphere is, overall, pretty friendly. University of Central Florida, Valencia Community College, and Full Sail are all nearby if the snooty Winter Park atmosphere gets to be too much. Money talks in the local area, but the rest of Orlando is just 10 minutes away, where more friendly and diverse people live. The theme parks are about 30 minutes away and very fun to visit if you have extra money. There are malls and movie theaters all over the place, and Cocoa Beach is only about 45 minutes to an hour away. Downtown Orlando has tons of restaurants, clubs, and bars for nightlife.'

'The food on campus is very good (considering I came from boarding school). Although the meals are a bit repetitive and the price range a little steep, the quality is still very good. Beans, the Grille, and Dianne's seem to be the hot spots.'

'I love the school, and I'm a senior. It took a little while my freshman year to get settled, but I grew to love everything about the school, especially the professors.'

'Drugs are prevalent at Rollins. It is often said it's 'snowing in Florida' from Rollins's cocaine problem. Painkillers such as Valium are popular, as is Adderall. I'd estimate that at least 50 percent of the students do some sort of drug (including pot).'

There's more to choosing a school than what you can find in a brochure.

The College Prowler Process

While writing our series of college guides, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. By hiring current students as authors, we strive to create college guides that truly represent each campus. Our guides cover both the good and the bad, and whether survey responses point to recurring trends or varying opinions, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.

From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion. Once a guide is written, additional college students serve as editors and check for accuracy even more extensively. This same process is applied to all of the 258 colleges and universities College Prowler currently covers. Each guide is the result of endless student contributions, hundreds of pages of research and writing, and countless hours of hard work. All of this has led to the creation of a student information network that stretches across the nation. It’s no easy accomplishment, but it’s the reason that our guides are such a great resource.
