So Many Options – There are a lot of good options to choose from and there is always room for specialization.

Very Tough – The academics are tough at BC but they foster you.

Solid Education, Some Social Issues – BC is a prestigious university with a lot of great resources, connections, and history. However, there are certainly noticeable racial, socioeconomic, and glbtq/straight divides.
The students are predominantly rich, white, straight, and Irish Catholic. Students who stray from this mold will certainly find it harder, (though by no means impossible!) to fit in.
BC is cutting edge in terms of it's research and quality of student life, including dining, housing, and academics. However, it needs to make more progress on social issues if it really wants to improve it's overall experience. Even students who really enjoy it notice that minorities are often indirectly discriminated against by the administration, and sometimes it is reflected in the student body.

Local Scene Could Be Better, but Easy Access to Boston – Right near BC there are a few bars (Cityside, Roggies, and Mary Ann's,) that students frequent, as well as a few restaurants. However, it could be more exciting. Still, BC is close to 3 of the green lines (B, C, and D,) so access to Boston is never an issue!

Financial aid at BC is pretty terrible. They are known for being notoriously stingy, and they are. They analyze every aspect of your family's finances. I did not receive nearly as much aid from BC as I did from other schools. There are no tips for getting financial aid at BC, but it obviously helps if you are a student athlete or are actually in a terrible financial situation. For middle class students, you are going to be paying a LOT.

Great School – The campus is safe, the food is excellent, the proximity to Boston is hard to beat, BC is just an overall excellent school. There are not many places where you can get such a rigorous education while maintaining the beliefs of a Jesuit education where our souls and morality are educated as well.

Health & Safety:
There are police everywhere, blue lights everywhere, and almost anyone is willing to help you on campus. The RA's are also an excellent resource if you ever feel unsafe.

Great Food – There's huge variety and several different places to eat on campus. The dining plan also has enough money so you'll never go hungry

Rain, Rain Go Away. Being right near the Atlantic Ocean there are a lot of "cloudy, grey days" you can almost always count on 3 out of 7 days to be raining during the end of Fall, Winter, and beginning of Spring. It's like it will be rainy for three days, then absolutely beautiful for 2 then bad again.

I See White People – Listen, BC is a Catholic school in Boston, created for persecuted Irishmen. THERE ARE A LOT OF RICH WHITE PEOPLE, but don't feel discouraged, there is a large AHANA (minority club) group on campus and honestly no one really cares who you are or where you came from, it's college and people just want to have fun with other people.

Guys & Girls:
Hot People – Being a guy, I can tell you the women are definitely above average. Honestly BC has one of the most beautiful groups of PEOPLE in general than I've ever seen in one place. There really aren't very many people that aren't extremely fit and good looking.

Nursing Major Is Tough but Well Worth It – Nursing is one of the toughest majors at any school, but at BC, you are surrounded but extraordinary faculty members who truly care about you as well as tons and tons of help and resources to guide you through your four years of nursing school. The curriculum is intensive, but BC is one of the only schools that allows nursing students the opportunity to study abroad, something I value highly of my alma mater. Nursing students do their clinical rotations in Boston hospitals, which rank at the top of all hospitals in the nation, perhaps even the world! Help from the administration and faculty for work and internship opportunities is abundant; everyone wants you to succeed at the Connell School of Nursing.

Definitely Above Average – BC has 3 major dining halls: Mac, Lower, and Stuart (on Newton campus). The 1st two are highly frequented by students of all years. There are other dining spots located throughout campus as well, adding wonderful variety to the mix. There are tons of meal options, and they change depending on where you go to eat. Prices can be quite staggering, depending on what you are buying. BC requires you purchase the full meal plan so long as you don't have a full kitchen in your dorm/off-campus apartment, but there is also a few Flex plans for students with the aforementioned amenities. Lower is definitely the best dining hall, in terms of food, location, and the people who most commonly eat there (upperclassmen!).

Availability and Accommodations for Students Are on-Par – There are 2 large computer labs at BC, with a variety of other computers for student use spread throughout campus. Printing on campus is excellent; students are given 500 free pages for printing each semester. BC's network is top notch, with incredibly remarkable speed and reliability. A personal computer is definitely recommended, as it makes things a lot easier (plus you need it for your own entertainment!), but a printer is not entirely necessary.

Guys & Girls:
Good Lookers All Around – Both the men and women at BC are very attractive. Personal appearance is a top priority for many of the students on campus. Typical style of dress is preppy; frequented brands include Uggs, Sperrys, J. Crew, Northface, Longchamp, etc.

Accessible and High Tech – Not only is technology up to date and accessible, there are many ways to get tech help at all times.

Really Good or Really Bad – If you are lucky with pick times you will get amazing accommodations, but if you are unlucky you can be split up from friends and stuck in very old dorms. The housing selection process is infamous for creating drama between friends.

Fun but Not Successful – Football is very fun but the team is not great. The only other sport with a big following is ice hockey- and we are national champs (again)!!

Great Food – The food is delicious and there are many options. It is harder for students with gluten dietary restrictions, and dinner choices are more limited. Addie's loft is delicious organic food that I crave even when I'm not at school! Dean's Beans coffee is also great and so are hillside paninis and omelets

Booze Heavy Versus Drugs – On BC campus you'll see way more people who tend to drink heavily versus drug users. I knew a few people who smoked weed here and there but it isn't exact;y the "It" thing to do on campus. Enforcement can be kind of lax because if you do get caught drinking and your friends call BCPD for you you won't get fined/in trouble for a first offense. However if you get caught more then once you have to take all these classes, same goes with marijuana and other drug use.
College Senior 2012-08-15T19:45:59Z
No Snow Days – It could be 5 feet of snow on the ground and a temperature of below zero and classes would still never get cancelled. I've been here for two years now and class was cancelled once during the New England storm two years ago. Also it rains a lot, make sure you have rain boots and a jacket.

Good, but Pricey (Because of the Location) – Off campus housing is easily accessible and available to members of the Boston College community. However, it is rather pricey... but that is because of the Brookline, Chestnut Hill, Brighton locations.
College Junior 2012-08-10T04:32:12Z
Good, but Can Be Much Better – Most of the food is good however, a lot of the same food is served all the time. They should have a wider range of menu options.

This Is Not a Business School – BC is a classic liberal arts school. The computer facilities are just fine, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Plenty to Do in Newton as Well as the City of Boston. It's very easy to get in to Cleveland circle or the city of boston with busses, train stops, and even cabs. There are plenty of things to do, places to shop, places to see and have fun at. I think Boston is one of the best places to go to college considering the variety of schools, places to shop/eat/party, as well as historical and political significance.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
