You definitely need parking permit to park on campus. Visitor parking is always available because there is a 7 floor parking garage but you still need to pay like $5. Students don't really need a car on campus because there are BC shuttles running very frequently and the subway (the T) is right outside the main gate. Unless you live far off campus, you don't need a car.

Great Libraries – The facilities at Boston College are really good. The libraries are beautiful and their atmosphere always makes you want to read and study. The restrooms are a bit stinky though, but generally in great maintenance. The campus scenery is always beautiful. BC does a great job planting trees and flowers. The gym - the plex - looks a bit tiny from the outside, but there is everything in the inside. Basketball, tennis, racquet ball, and squash courts, swimming pool and weights area. Free skating rinks open once in awhile are always great fun too.

Health & Safety:
Totally Safe – BCPD is always visible and emergency light/alarm to call the police is visible everywhere. Especially since BC is a closed campus, it feels more safe. The students don't still any personal belongings while you leave your backpack and laptops on the table and go to restrooms or buy food. Eagle Escort is always available at night to give you a ride back to your dorms.

Great All Around School – Boston College is a great all around school. The academics are challenging but manageable and BC has a great academic reputation. The social scene is pretty good and theres always something to do, especially with the city of Boston a short ride away. There are a lot of great people here and its a fantastic place to be.

Some Sports Are More Popular Than Others – Everyone on campus turns out for the football games, and the hockey games are pretty popular as well. However, most other sports, including basketball, get very little fan support. Our teams don't always do that great, but the games are fun and hockey always does well. As far as athletic facilities, the plex could use some improvement, but its not too bad.

Bit Cold in the Winter – New England weather is always crazy. In the winter it's freezing and we get quite a bit of snow (except not this year). The school never cancels class for snow but they do a pretty good job of clearing the sidewalks. Though there was a time where they definitely should have cancelled classes because the quad was like an ice rink.

Tons of School Pride – The athletics are great, everyone makes an effort to get involved. We have a lot of school pride and sports are a big deal. There are also tons of intramural teams.

Perfect Location – There is not much going on in the area around BC, but if you take the train in to Boston there are always things going on. It's nice that Boston College's campus is quiet and away from the city, but its not difficult to get in to the city if you are in the mood for that atmosphere. The school also does a great job of putting on shows and organizing activities on campus so we don't have to go far. The campus is also very safe and most students attend the sports games.

What You Make of Yourself – The academics at Boston College are what they are made out to be: great. However it also takes being a great student for them to seem so outstanding. It's easy to decide that you'll take slack classes or easy professors, but those classes end up being the most boring and you'll learn the least, which I feel is not fulfilling. My advice: take a hard class or two, with a professor that's a tough grader or gives a lot of work. They're usually the ones passionate about the subject and they aren't just "out to get you" -- they want you to succeed, you just have to fight for it and really ask around with other students which professors are best.

Guys & Girls:
Guys Are Hot, but Playboys – There are definitely some hot guys here, but the majority of the ones that are are only into the hookup culture of BC. The girls here are pretty much cookie cutter blonde trust-funders
College Senior 2012-02-29T17:05:58Z
J Crew Catalog – Vast majority of student population is white, and most other racial communities form their own social groups, especially the asian community. Most people are Catholic as well since this is a Jesuit university, but it's not incredibly noticeable to me and I'm not Catholic.

Always Something Going on – Freshmen housing doesn't really permit drinking in the dorms, but there is always a place at upper clansmen housing or off-campus. Many people go there. Many also go to the bars that are just a shuttle bus ride away.

Parking is tough! There are not many passes available and even when you have a pass they are picky about which spots you can park in, so you might still get a ticket. The street spots have all sort of varied rules about times to park and it is hard to find a metered spot.

On Campus parties are very exclusive. unless you have the hookups, good luck trying to get in especially as a guy

Boston College is in its own bubble and students forget that sometimes.
Living off campus can give you a broader perspective on college life in boston.
If you live on campus, you tend to stay on it more than you are off it.

A little bit of everything – Easy to find something to do any night of the week.

Keep at It and It'll Work Out – With the financial aid process you need to keep calling if you want to appeal, but BC prides itself as one of the institutions that meet 100% of need-based financial aid.

All Four Seasons – The weather isn't really an issue for campus life with the shuttle system. When it gets cold, people stay inside, but on any warm day everyone is outside for some sun.

Guys & Girls:
Interesting Combination – The dating scene is basically mini-marriages or simply random hookups. But the students are attractive and everyone is looking for a good time.

Dining Hall Food – The food on Lower campus is better than upper but they are both pretty good. People complain about the setup of paying with money instead of meal swipes, but if you think about it it's actually much better this way. The cooks are good and the selection changes often enough. Boston is close enough that if you really get tired of everything, you can just eat out anyway.

Music Education Major – Faculty is excellent. The curriculum is structured well. Just got a new course specifically for pursuing music education. The workload is not too much at all. There are many many opportunities to perform and get involved in ensembles through the department. The professors are extremely friendly and willing to help, and every one of them is an expert both in music and at teaching it.

Few Grants, Efficient Process – The office is very efficient. Don't expect to get much beyond loans, however! There are only ~15 merit scholarships available per entering class.

Great for a Certain Type of Person – I got a lot out of my time at BC and had opportunities there that would not have been available anywhere else, but the social aspects are very difficult if you're not coming from a prep school in Connecticut

Excellent When Not Tas – Many of the faculty are excellent, but too many introductory-level courses are taught by teaching assistants.

Boston Dining – BC has a nice selection of local favorites, such as Roggies, Pinos, el pelon, etc and if you want any other type of food, I'm sure you will be able to find it somewhere in the city of Boston. Delivery options are also great, and some places take your eagle bucks. Dining out can get expensive though, especially when transportation is involved.
