Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sports are huge at BC! Football, basketball, and hockey are the three big sports at BC, and pretty much everyone is in tune to how the teams are doing. Tailgating for football games is the highlight of many BC students’ experiences. Here, alumni, parents, and students run rampant through campus on the morning of the game, enjoying fall, food, and flavored beer. The spirit in the stadium is palpable and a total rush for any sports fan. BC prides itself on its athletic program, so you’re bound to catch a solid basketball, hockey, or football season. Lesser-known sports excel but don’t receive the same attention the big three. Intramural sports are also major at BC, with hundreds of people lining up on sign-up day for spots on the teams. Word to the wise: Get there early, or you could lose your chance at playing!

If you’re not into sports, BC might not be a great place for you. You certainly don’t have to get into sports, but you might feel a little left out as everyone revs up for game day and you don’t really care. There’s always the option of going to the games just to hang out with people, which can be fun and doesn’t require actually knowing the rules or caring about sports.

Some Sports Are More Popular Than Others

Everyone on campus turns out for the football games, and the hockey games are pretty popular as well. However, most other sports, including basketball, get very little fan support. Our teams don't always do that great, but the games are fun and hockey always does well. As far as athletic facilities, the plex could use some improvement, but its not too bad.

Boston College: Very Athletic School

Athletics at BC are important. Football season is full of excitement especially the fan support at the games and the cheers. The team performance is not the best but the students like to socialize at the games, they don't really pay attention to what's happening on the field. Athletic facilities are very good, well-kept. Athletes get a lot of resources with academic help and their own workout gym.

School Spirit

Students at BC have a ton of school spirit! Everyone is proud of all of the athletic teams, especially football, basketball, and hockey. Almost every student owns (and constantly wears!) BC apparel, and on game days, the campus is a sea of maroon and gold. Sporting events are huge, and students like to paint their faces, bodies, and even hair. Come to a football game, and you’ll see for yourself!
