College Prowler Take

There is no official Greek life on campus at Boston College, but that definitely doesn’t stop anyone from having fun! No one seems to notice the lack of fraternities and sororities, probably because there are so many nearby schools that a Friday-night frat party is just a T ride away. Many students consider not having Greek life a positive asset of Boston College life, since there are fewer cliques, no extreme hazing rituals, and no pressure to feel like you have to join a certain fraternity or sorority.

BC provides many other ways to feel like you are a part of a group—athletics, clubs, student government, and other campus organizations create a real sense of community among students with similar interests. Of course, if you are really looking forward to Greek life being a part of your college experience, you can always join up with a community-wide fraternity or sorority—just check out Boston resources to find one you like.

There are no fraternities or sororities allowed on campus, but that's okay because Boston College students don't need any more reasons to party! There are lots of alcoholic parties on campus, as well as at the off-campus houses and apartments where juniors live. There are still things to do on campus if you decide not to drink, but that's really where it's at on the weekends.

BC has no Greek life, so it's not a factor at all as far as I know. I think some people wish we did just so there would be an actual place for parties, and it would inspire a sense of tradition, but other people are perfectly happy without it.

Boston College doesn’t have any fraternities because it’s a Catholic school and we’re not allowed. But don’t worry; we still have a good time. Most all of the juniors live off campus so they’re always having parties, and I’ve been to quite a few frat parties at other schools around BC like Tufts and BU, and honestly, I wasn’t that impressed. They’re crowded, the people are trashy, and the guys are sleazy. We also have a huge emphasis on sports, so the teams, which are kind of our mini-version of frats, have parties a lot. Seniors that live on campus have good parties in the Mods, which is also a great to tailgate before football games—another huge part of BC social life.
