Quick Stats

School Slang
  • CoRo: College Road, located on Upper Campus, where unlucky sophomores have to live
  • The Mods: Modular housing on Lower Campus where seniors live. Notorious for huge parties and lots of hook-ups
  • The Plex: The student gym
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School It doesn’t always click right away for everyone. Give yourself time to adjust if you don’t fall in love with Boston College during the first week. Don’t think you should instantaneously feel at home.
Tips to Succeed
  • “Study hard, play hard,” actually does work.
  • Always check the PEPS before class selection.
  • Expand your friendship circles! Just because people live in your hall doesn’t mean there aren’t thousands of other very cool individuals to form relationships with.
  • Go away for spring break, either on service trips or somewhere tropical. You can see your hometown friends during the summer.

Racist

"Lack of social diversity" doesn't describe BC's social scene accurately - it's more of a lack of assimilation. It's a serious problem here. I've never, ever in my life, felt as if my race was an obstacle socially until I came to BC. I've always had a very diverse set of friends, and never thought anything about it. Just in the last week, I have had two instances of racism against me: I heard someone laugh about "that Asian wearing vineyard vines" from their window as I walked past, and in an elevator my friend and I were simply minding our own business and chatting and as some girl left the elevator she said "Bye, make sure to get A+'s on all of your tests!"

Seriously unbelievable (I'm less than half Asian). I think if you're a minority here, being accepted is much more difficult than in other schools. So much so that I would advise minority freshman to not come here. You might get caught in what is infamously known as the "Asian bubble," or whatever bubbles exist outside of the douchy, bro bubble. Again, I have never had race, ever in my life, be an issue before coming here.

Beautiful Buildings!

The buildings on campus are beautiful and many people have compared it to Harry Potter. The faculty here are always excited to talk to students and are very supportive.
