College Prowler Take
Beware Seasonal Affective cases! Everyone agrees: If you like that whole warm-weather thing, stay far away from Boston. The winter weather can be brutal, and the winter always seems to creep into the fall and the spring. Most apartments have heat included, so do not make the mistake of getting a place that doesn’t because bills can hit $200 in the winter months. The gray skies, however, do break up occasionally, and when they do, Bostonians shed their layers and head outside. You will be amazed at how much a nice day is appreciated once you have been deprived of sunshine for so long. Boston is beautiful in the spring, once it eventually arrives. Luckily, there are plenty of outdoor activities, depending on the weather. During the winter, the Frog Pond in the Boston Commons opens as an outdoor ice skating rink. There is also plenty of skiing and boarding nearby in neighboring states. During the warmer seasons, the Charles River provides all sorts of activities, including, sailing and boating, jogging along the water, and plenty of free outdoor music festivals. Go to the pier or to the parks for an afternoon outdoors. Of course, Boston has a million things to offer when the weather is unbearable: museums, galleries, aquarium, shopping, restaurants, theater, and clubbing.

Winter is rough and long, so bring clothes that can handle a lot of snow and a lot of cold. There's rarely a snow day—I actually had walk across campus to take exams when there was a blizzard that accumulated almost 3 feet. The spring and summer are worth it, though.

The weather is tolerable. I like the fact that it is not too damp in Massachusetts. Snow boots and an umbrella are a must for winter, but, otherwise, the weather is fairly seasonable.

Bring flip-flops for the early fall and late spring, and a scarf for the winter—the wind kills being right on the river. Also, always have an umbrella and boots no matter what the season. Precipitation is Boston's best friend.

It's typical New England weather. Crappy winters, short springs, nice and lively summers, and very pretty autumns. It snows a lot in the winter, and windchill is usually very bad here.
