Seems like parking is pretty much always availbable

Brunswick experiences very cold winters with A LOT of snow, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, because it's beautiful to see. The fall is probably the most pleasant season, and the spring can be a bit unpredictable.

Health & Safety:
I've never felt unsafe at Bowdoin - security is always helpful and friendly, and crime is very uncommon.

Drinking is most popular at Bowdoin College, the weekends are sort of centered around it. Smoking is common, but hard drugs are not really visible. If you look hard enough for something you can find it though.

The food is amazing. You can get tired of certain meals by the end of the semester. Compared to other schools, we eat like royalty. There are always many options, the food is tasty and fresh, lots of healthy foods. There are only two dining halls which I love because you're bound to go in and find your friends. I love that we don't have subway or chick fil a or anything like that, I would get so sick of fast food! The dining halls make real meals. The "special" nights and ethnic displays never disappoint. Get in line early for Thanksgiving!! They open one of the dining halls on weekend nights for "super snacks." The dining employees are very nice.

50/50 PC and Mac. Its very easy to find an available computer. Free Wifi all over campus. Most students use their own laptops.

Many people are involved with varsity sports. Students not on teams sometimes refer to themselves as NARPs (non athletic regular people) jokingly. I can see how it might seem like too many students are jocks. But because so many people do sports, it means athletes aren't treated like gods like at most schools. Its only a part of someones personality.
IM and club sports are mildly popular.
Games aren't super well attended except during homecoming and the Colby hockey games.
Facilities are really nice, trainers are helpful.

Well no one drives to class that I know of unless they live in the few far away dorms (Mayflower, Pine) and even then many walk. To park anywhere, you need a decal for specific lots which aren't always right in front of where you want to be.

The weather itself is fine. The fact that Bowdoin is in Maine just sounds scary. The campus looks picture perfect with New England leaves, glittery snow, and in the spring sun. Fall is my favorite, it just feels like college to me. It doesn't get very grey because we're right on the ocean, we're a little more temperate. However, because we are on the far end of a time zone, we get very early sunsets in winter- like, 4:00 pm. Which can be depressing for a couple weeks, but then you go home for a month for winter break. Also, snow never cancels class but they shovel really well and classes are all close.

Wonderful assortment of really good low-key and some upper-end restaurants in Brunswick.

While the wireless access is pretty good, access to your student account from campus computers is slow, as are those computers themselves.

Beautiful campus, full of green spaces and a mix of old and modern buildings.

Bowdoin's campus is awesome. The quad is awesome and a great place to hang out. Everything is so close that even walking to the other side of campus in the middle of the night in the dead of winter is manageable. The town of Brunswick is also awesome. It is so classic New England and there are so many cute restaurants available. Also Portland is close enough for students to go down there for trips. There are also so many things to do through the outing club so students are never bored. The gym is pretty much always open and the campus is super athletic and fit so there are always people in there.

The financial process is tricky, but the school truly wants to give financial aid to as many people as possible. Bowdoin also offers both unsubsidized and subsidized loans to students who do not get financial aid.

There are a few labs on campus and the computers all work pretty fast. There are often many people in the labs, but availability isn't usually an issue. Most people have their own computers, but I am sure that it would be fine if you didn't have a laptop since there are plenty of computers.

Awesome housing and great people living all around you. The freshman housing is right in the center of campus and all of the dorms have been newly renovated so it is prime living. The social aspect of the dorms is awesome because each freshman dorm is affiliated with a social house so there is immediately a link between the freshman and the social scene.

Sometimes can be hard to find a spot, but such a small campus that nobody really needs to drive anywhere.
College Sophomore 2013-07-15T20:09:11Z
As far as bars and clubs go, there is no such thing as "nightlife" at Bowdoin. Even if you are of age, bars in town are not very popular, and the majority of campus chooses to party either in social houses, off-campus houses, or upperclassmen dorms (the Tower has a pretty awesome party scene)
College Sophomore 2013-07-15T20:06:09Z
There isn't much need for transportation, as the campus is close to downtown Brunswick, and there are both bus and train stations nearby. However, transportation after hours can be hard to come by, with a typical 45 minute to an hour wait for a shuttle to take you around campus at night. The shuttle service also recently did away with transportation to off-campus houses, which makes going to parties on the weekends somewhat of a hassle, especially if you choose to drink.

Fantastic food with plenty of locally sourced options, from New England farms and the school's organic garden. Local items are labelled, as are gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options. I still have a full meal plan entering my senior year and am completely content. Some dishes get old after four years, but every meal you go to will have a dish you are excited to eat. There are two dining halls: Thorne and Moulton. Freshman year there is a constant debate between which one is better, but after that most people simply go to the closer of the two. Thorne has a large vaulted dining room with plenty of light, while Moulton has two darker dining rooms with lower ceilings, that are definitely on the "cozy" side of things.

Brunswick is a small town, but there is excellent food close to campus. Obviously not as many options as a big city, but Portland is relatively close to campus and has more restaurants than you could hope to try if you spent every weekend going down there. Well, maybe you could try all of them if you did that...
College Senior 2013-07-10T20:45:55Z
People smoke weed, a few do hallucinogens and you hear whispers anytime someone does cocaine or harder drugs, but in general people are very safe and smart about drug use. People on campus are driven academically and do not pressure others to join them. Security's priority is safety first.

I am a Government and Legal Studies major at Bowdoin College, and while I have not officially declared my major yet, but I am very happy with it. The classes are engaging, and while the workload is heavy, it is also interesting.
College Sophomore 2013-07-10T15:56:33Z
I plan to have an internship, since everything I've heard about the internship program at Bowdoin College has been positive, including its program to pay students for unpaid internships. I have slight concerns about being able to find an internship, but I'm also confident that Bowdoin College will help me to find one.

Very challenging, but a worthwhile challenge. Great professors, and truly interesting material.
