Advice on Finding a Job/Internship Life after college can be a scary concept, but the Career Planning Center at Bowdoin does its best to make the transition easier for graduating seniors. With consortia setup with numerous other respectable schools and a great online database, Bowdoin makes hundreds, if not thousands, of different job listings accessible to students. For students not graduating, CPC also organizes and lists thousands of internships and jobs that both Bowdoin and other schools have found. The staff offers a wide range of workshops and clinics to help students create résumés and acquire summer internships. Just like everything in life, when starting a job or internship search, being early, plan your time and prospects well, and utilize the CPC staff’s help, as well as workshops, campus visits, recruitment days, and everything else that the CPC makes readily available to the students. Favorite professors are also a great resource. If you ask them for internship and job ideas, they are usually more than willing to help you find something that will suit your needs and aspirations.
Did You Know?
  • The College offers a First-Year Job Placement program that commits first-year students to a position somewhere on campus their first semester. After that, they may keep their job or not.
  • For many, dining services is viewed to be the worst area to work. While it does include such nasty jobs as washing dishes or frying food in Jack McGee's Pub, dining services also includes fun jobs like brunch cook and display cook. The working atmosphere in Thorne Hall is particularly positive. There are also jobs throughout other departments including the library, Information Technology, the Green House, and the fitness center.
