Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There's a pretty good chance the restaurants in Brunswick will satisfy whatever you're craving. Even though Bowdoin is in a small Maine town, students can find food from around the world—Thai, Indian, Italian, German, Irish-Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, and more. Brunswick also provides a pretty good selection of healthy, organic, vegetarian, and vegan options. For more familiar fare, multiple doughnut chains, pizza parlors, and fast food restaurants are also available. Domino’s and Papa John’s run regular late-night services and offer special discounts to Bowdoin students.

Students say the quality, convenience of locations (many great restaurants are right on Maine Street), and number of options are great. Prices aren't horrible, but they aren't regarded as excellent, either. Brunswick's weakest attribute when it comes to off-campus dining is that most places close earlier than what is ideal for a college student's schedule—the wonderful options throughout Brunswick are generally not available for night owls, except for pub food and doughnuts. Students probably don't take advantage of off-campus dining as much as they would if on-campus dining wasn't so tasty, but it's nice to have it there for a change of pace and for special occasions. Overall, though, the wide selection of eateries in Brunswick, supplemented by further dining options in Portland and other surrounding towns, offers more than enough variety for a number of tastes.

Not Too Shabby

Brunswick is a small town of about 10,000 people, so obviously the off-campus dining options aren't the same as they'd be in, say, New York or LA. That being said, there are some pretty great options and a surprising array of different cuisines. There are 2 good Indian restaurants, a few Chinese places, a sushi restaurant, and some Thai restaurants, as well as the only Irish pub/Mexican restaurant I've ever heard of! And because it's small town Maine, the prices are also not that of a big city, so while there are some fancy (and pricey) places, it's also easy to eat out without spending a ton of money

Off-Campus Dining

There are many different options to choose from outside of Bowdoin. A very short 5 minute walk to Main street allows you to choose from many different restaurants that are good and pretty cheap. I just wish there were more Asian options!

Surprisingly Good

Coming to Brunswick, I was unsure whether there would be places to go out to get a nice bite with some friends. I was surprised when I found two Indian restaurants, a Japanese restaurant, a nice cafe, and many other perfect places to eat. The sheer variety of choices can satisfy anyone's pallet.
