Whether you desire pizza, calzone, chicken fried rice, lobster, a sub, curry, or a burger, you can find a restaurant that caters quite well to your craving here in Brunswick. Not far from Brunswick are Bath, Freeport, Lewiston, Portland, and Topsham. These neighboring locales offer more than enough choices for even the pickiest of eaters. Domino’s and Papa John’s run regular late-night services and offer special discounts to Bowdoin students. Currently, meal plans are not valid with off-campus venues. The overall consensus of the student body is that off-campus dining is good, but it could be better. Most of the really good establishments around do not stay open late, so night owls who eat only after 9 p.m. are left out in the cold. With such amazing on-campus dining options, many students only wander off campus once in a while when they need a change in their daily routine. On the whole, you won’t be seeing the majority of the student body eating off campus in an attempt to avoid bad food. Overall, though, the wide selection of eateries in Brunswick, not to mention Bowdoin’s close proximity to restaurants in neighboring towns and cities, offer more than enough variety for a number of tastes. Surprisingly Diverse
B+
In "nowhere" Maine, you still get Indian, Thai, Mexican, Italian, the best gelato on the planet and much more within walking distance of Brunswick. Prices range alot, but the cheap food is still great. Local eateries do alot of stuff with the school for special discounts and such. Bombay Mahal, and Gelato Fiasco are musts.

Eating in Brunswick
A
Maine Street, a two-minute walk from basically anywhere on campus, is chock-full of restaurants. From Japanese to Indian, to coffee shops, to Mexican-Irish pub food, we've got it. And though restaurants close a little too early for any late-night college weekend dining, there's plenty of delicious food to fit any budget-- that is, if you can manage to skip a meal at the bombin' dining halls.

Quaint Maine Street Has Great Variety
A+
Part of my decision to come to Bowdoin was the great location amongst a variety of cuisines. Maine Street features Scarlet Begonias (a nice cafe/restaurant), The Great Impasta (pasta of course!), Richard's (a German restaurant), Henry and Marty's, The Little Dog Cafe, Frosty's (a donut shop that opens at 3 a.m. and is usually sold out by 9 a.m.), and a great little Gluten-Free bakery called Wildflours. Those are just a few! There is also a Wild Oats Bakery, a Dunkin' Donuts and Morning Glory (a natural foods store with all sorts of deliciousness!). The star of Maine Street is The Gelato Fiasco, a source of fantastic homemade gelato in a plethora of flavors! Just a bit farther, on Pleasant Street, there is even more variety with a classic lobster shack, Tim Horton's and multiple Thai restaurants. Whether your preferences are for the Northeastern donut chains or for eccentric ethnic cuisine, Brunswick is likely to have it.

For being a small and...
For being a small and overwhelmingly white town, Brunswick has a surprisingly good array of choices when it comes to restaurants. We’ve got at least two Indian and three Thai places, along with a few Chinese restaurants, several American-style places, a sub-par Mexican place, and surely one of the only Irish-Mexican restaurants in the world. Good spots are Scarlet Begonias (tiny, but famous for its pizza and pasta), Shere Punjab, and Bangkok Garden. |

Bruswick Maine Is Full of Mediocre Restaurants
B+
Options include Japenese, mexican, THai and India. There is a good variety but we are in Maine. This is not NYC. Student favorites include Frontier, a crunchy Sandwich shop in a loft, and Gelat Fiasco, which serves Gelato even in the dead of winter.

Did You Know?During the spring and summer, a lot of vendors set-up on Maine Street with a variety of tasty food to try.
The edible inhabitants of the ocean are only four miles from campus and often make it to your plate in the dining hall.
Cody’s is a popular ice cream shop that hoards of Bowdoin students visit in May when it opens up for the summer season. Students wait all year to get such flavors like Java Bean Crunch or the Mainer.
