College Prowler Take
Although most students decide to stay on campus their senior year (the housing lottery favors them and the possibilities are amazing), the students that decide to live off campus can find excellent oceanfront homes or homes nearby campus to rent for close to what they would pay to live on campus. Unlike many schools, at Bowdoin you need to live on campus for at least the first two years of college. Living off campus is a great option that a lot of students would be interested in by their junior or senior year. One of the drawbacks to trying to live off campus is the extra effort that students need to put in to find and arrange housing. The other issue that some students run into is that off-campus houses are usually farther from campus than on-campus options. For this reason, many students who live off campus feel the need to have a car as well.
Students who decide to live off campus tend to enjoy themselves, mostly due to an increased sense of independence and an escape from everyday Bowdoin life. It is surprising what bargains students often find in amazing locations. Overall, less than 10 percent of the student body brave life off campus, and those who remain on campus rarely complain.
