The Bowdoin Bubble is not hard to navigate by foot. Maine Street runs right past campus, and conveniences, like a grocery store, are less than a mile away. There is also a plethora of restaurants within walking distance, including German, Indian, Italian, Japanese, and Thai cuisines. However, a car will add to the convenience of life outside Maine Street. Brunswick is not a large city, so there's no public transportation system, but Vermont Transit (Greyhound) has a stop not far from campus, and Concord Coach Lines has an on-campus stop. These buses offer easy travel to Montreal, Boston, New York City, and more. Bowdoin’s Safe Ride provides an easy, safe way for students to travel around campus at night, and the Bowdoin Student Government provides taxi services on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings to prevent drunk driving. The Bowdoin Shuttle runs to various spots in the local area, and on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, the Bowdoin Student Government runs a shuttle service to Freeport and Portland.
At times, the Bowdoin Bubble can feel suffocating, but there are enough low-cost travel options for students to get around if they do not bring a vehicle to campus. The possibility of leaving campus is much better than at rival Maine schools, and with little effort, it is easy to get off campus. There are also many students on campus with cars, and most do not mind taking friends places.
