I had a really hard time with some professors because they weren't there to help the students, but other instructors were very helpful and supportive. Some of their curriculum didn't make much sense, but other parts were wonderful. Class registration can be difficult, but meeting with your advisor really helps with that. Workload can be high based on what you take, but you choose pretty much the amount you take. BGSU Firelands has excellent special study options with the Teaching and Learning Center. They help you study if you need it or set you up with a tutor. We don't have very many programs other than drama or art shows at our campus. I believe we have some basketball too.

I have not really seen many. The gym looks nice from through the windows. The "pit" -a student hangout place- is pretty nice, with some comfortable chairs. Although it could use some better outlets. The library is relatively small, but nice, with very helpful people. The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) is wonderful, with very helpful people including tutors. The TLC has computers and we also have a lab. There are computers placed in the hallways and main areas of the buildings, too. They just put in a study lounge, which is very nice, with many outlets, comfortable chairs, and it is very quiet.

I am usually able to work my class schedule around my personal schedule. Now that I am in my program though, I do not have any flexibility. Classes are only offered once a year, so I have to take them when they are offered no matter what my personal schedule may need.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
The education I am getting is worth the expenses. I received most of my financial aid through outside awards, but did receive some from the college. I did learn the hard way how important it is to get the right forms in on time. What I wish was different was the assistance given. When I had problems with the online forms-which seemed to be the only way to go- I could not get ahold of anyone to help, and those that I talked to were unable to give any assistance.

I never wanted to have to take an online course. I had heard that the system was difficult to operate, the classes were harder, and the teachers cared less. You get used to the system, but the classes are more difficult. You really lose the lecture portion of the class. The teachers are some of the most accessible and caring I have taken. They really love responding to your work.

I am a post-secondary High School Student taking all of my classes at Firelands for the past 2 years. The teachers have all been fantastic, except for some of the sattelite classes I have taken at local high schools. The classes are flexible, class sizes are relatively small, and they can easily be all major-related. The only issue is that the classes seem to be at a lower level than some of the more selective universities.

The student body is just kinda bland. A majority of students are white. Some are older, some are college age and some are in between. Skill levels of the students here vary. I've seen some classmates, in GSW 1110, whose sentences are poor and remind me of a third grade student.
College Junior 2013-02-13T13:05:55Z
The gym here is just barely the size of a standard basketball court. The weight room is about closet size. The Student Center and library are tiny, but helpful. Campus activities are very limited and often get the shaft from main campus activities.

There is nothing really unique about this place and it feels just like high school.
College Junior 2013-02-13T13:03:16Z
There are maybe 15 computers in the computer lab. Network speed is really slow. Constant technological errors when trying to turn work in online.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I would've given an A+, but there was a span of 2 weeks where there was a hidden hold on my account and the Office of Financial Aid didn't know what was going on. Other than that they give great financial aid and tuition cost is really low.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
They did not help me at all I did all the work myself
College Sophomore 2013-02-04T07:16:23Z
I feel they do not meet the needs of all the students such as only having office hours during the day when students also attend classes at night due to working during the day
College Sophomore 2013-02-04T07:12:52Z
most of the students I have gotten to know are full time parents and work as well as school lots of the students are single parents of small children and they encourage me to continue as I have small children as well.

I have enjoyed many of the Criminal Justice classes I have taken. They are very informative and the teachers know what they are talking about and are very professional. My only complaints are that I wish we would do more hands on things such and fingerprinting and investigating crimes.

I enjoy that it is close to home since I come from a low income family I have to work to pay for my own college along with help from grants and scholarships but I have still had to work very hard. It helps that it is very affordable for college and its a friendly atmosphere.

I chose to attend BGSU Firelans because it was affordable and I can complete my major there. The drive is convienent for me and it's easy to attend classes. I like going to BGSU because the classes are educational and I can work while attending school and after four years not be in debt.

So Very Close to Home – I live seven miles away and this is very workable.

Working for the Same Goals – The vast majority of the students are dedicated to an education and positive prospects for the future. Many students work and attend classes and are dedicated towards becoming a career orientated citizen.

Work Load and Time – I am a art history major, and my classes by far have been what I have expected. Unfortunately my Art teacher is also my art history teacher so we cannot talk or ask him questions.
College Senior 2012-08-11T18:03:09Z
The Life of a Freshman Student at BGSU Firelands – I wish that my art professor was a more kinder teacher, and that he would not be so mean and passive aggressive against us. All the teachers I have had so far have been very kind and always wanting to help you. the lectures my other teacher give are so interesting. Unfortunately my art teacher dose not share there views on how to treat students.

Yes, the whole campus has wi-fi. It comes with certain restrictions, obviously. No complaints. Still upset about the Food prices being so high, and paying for paper I already paid for, but nothing more.
College Junior 2012-07-26T21:09:32Z
Not Much – I'm not a big 'GYM' person, but I did work in the theater department, they seem shorted funding. I also think we should have more supplies for the more expensive fields, computer, equipment, PAPER. Students in certain programs ALREADY pay fees to use certain materials but are charged throughout the semester per material, that doesn't seem right.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
GPA ? I have been awarded many honors and awards, society inductions, and have maintained a very high class rank and status, but NO financial aid. I have a 4.0 in my major and 3.95 overall, and not a single scholarship makes it past the EFC to see that I'm deserving. The system is broken, they should award student with achievements, because many of us completely disagree with the ASSUMED amount of EFC. or "Need".
College Junior 2012-07-26T21:03:40Z
Administration Power-Plays – It is well known that there are certain people of authority that can not be argued with, even when they are wrong. I am denied access to computer labs and certain rooms that I NEED to be in to complete class work, but the 'People' in charge dont trust any of their students and they treat us all like thieves and liars if we need into the computer lab to do homework. One lead figure of authority came into one of my classes and raged at the students for being in the class because the teacher was late. Supposedly, we are so irresponsible, we should wait in the hallway wasting time if our teacher is running late instead of going into the classroom to work.
My overall point, if the college wants to keep expanding and getting new equipment etc, they should probably start trusting their students until the INDIVIDUALS cause reason to not trust. We pay to be in the rooms and to have access to those supplies, we pay extra fees and all.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
