College Prowler Take
The Brandeis network is awesome. The Brandeis administration has taken no stance on file sharing and has actually made file-sharing access easier within the Brandeis network. However, if you download an excessive amount of files for three weeks straight, you will be kicked off. The Brandeis Web site Boogle allows students to search for files on other students’ computers, so file sharing becomes really easy, and with the lightning-quick connection, the Brandeis network allows you to transfer files, music, and movies in the blink of an eye. The Library and Technology Services (LTS) system is excellent when you need computer or research help. When you first come to Brandeis, LTS will help you set up your computer, your phone, and will even install Norton AntiVirus. Almost everyone has a personal computer here, but while it is very helpful to have your own computer, it is not essential. There are many computers, both Macs and PCs, available at the libraries and in the Shapiro Campus Center. Between classes, people love to stop and check their e-mail, so the computer labs can fill up very quickly then. If you have a laptop and don't want to work in your room, most of the campus is wireless, and authorizing your computer is very easy.

You can always find an open...
You can always find an open computer on campus, but the WiFi's good enough that you can just bring your own computer with you anywhere. I'd recommend having your own computer because Brandeis communicates often with its student body through e-mail. Also, as far as Mac vs PC goes, it's pretty much a split 50/50 campus.

People tend to bring their own...
People tend to bring their own computers to Brandeis, but if you need a computer, there are more than enough in the main library. Everywhere has WiFi, so on a nice fall day, you can go sit outside and work if you have your own computer.

The computer network is excellent....
The computer network is excellent. The entire campus is wireless, and there is a great support staff for both students and faculty. There are several computer clusters throughout campus-in the graduate schools, libraries, and student center. More and more students bring their computers to class, but it is not necessary and sometimes not even allowed. Public computing is pretty reliable though, as long as you have your own flashdrive to save your work.

The computers at Brandeis are...
The computers at Brandeis are really great. There is wireless access everywhere that is overall reliable. There are several different public-access computers in the library that I use frequently so I am less distracted. Having a computer is what most people do, but I think a student could get by without one.

Most people I know have a laptop. There are computers elsewhere on campus, but I'd suggest having your own.
