Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There really is no way to get around the fact that Brandeis students like weed, and you can feel marijuana’s presence everywhere on campus, especially on the weekends. You can certainly avoid it if it’s not your scene, but if you want it, there is an abundance. There are constant rumors circulating about students smoking with professors or hotboxing public rooms. Students caught with a covered smoke detector will be fined by the school. On average, probably about half of the Brandeis population smokes weed at least once within their four years here, and the other half tends to take a very anti-drug stance.

If you’re looking for more hardcore drugs, look to other colleges. There are hardcore drugs at Brandeis, but only a small population uses them. Ritalin and Adderall are the second most popular drugs at Brandeis, which makes sense considering how hard most students study. There are the few people who love to experiment, try acid, and snort Vicodin and cocaine or whatever they can get, but most people who use drugs stick to weed for relaxation and Ritalin or Adderall to study—and most of these people don’t even consider these drugs.

It's There If You Want It

There is alcohol and drug use at every school, though I would say that it's generally only alcohol and marijuana here. It's not particularly noticeable on campus (Rosie, a sophomore quad is an exception) and the unrecognized frats and sororities have parties with alcohol. Marijuana is in the dorms as well, but I've never felt pressured to do anything I didn't want to do. It's basically there if you want it and you don't notice it if you don't want it.

More People Drink Than Smoking

Drug scene at Brandeis is average and it only exists in some circle of friends. They usually only smoke. Alcohol is at all parties, people pregame. There are wet (junior&senior) and dry quads (freshmen&sophomore).

Drugs? Brandeis?

The only drugs I've seen around campus are cigarettes. People prefer to drink, if they do anything at all. It all depends on who you hang out with, and Brandeis is not a party-heavy school.
