College Prowler Take
There really is no way to get around the fact that Brandeis students like weed, and you can feel marijuana’s presence everywhere on campus, especially on the weekends. You can certainly avoid it if it’s not your scene, but if you want it, there is an abundance. There are constant rumors circulating about students smoking with professors or hotboxing public rooms. The school was fined more than $20,000 after a city inspection found covered smoke detectors in dorm rooms, and students caught with a covered smoke detector will now be fined by the school. On average, probably about half of the Brandeis population smokes weed at least once within their four years at Brandeis, and the other half tends to take a very anti-drug stance. If you’re looking for more hardcore drugs, look to other colleges. There are hardcore drugs at Brandeis, but only a small population uses them. Ritalin is getting more popular, which makes sense considering how hard most students study. There are the few people who love to experiment, try acid, and snort Vicodin or whatever they can get their hands/noses on, but most people who use drugs stick to weed—and most of these people don’t even consider marijuana a drug.

Smoking pot is pretty popular, but...
Smoking pot is pretty popular, but people usually do it in their rooms, so it's not what you'd call "visible." There's not a lot of harder drugs. Some kids do recreational prescription drugs, like Vicodin or even Adderall. Drinking is less popular than at most schools, but it's still more common than drugs. You won't find many people noticeably drunk. It's important to note that we have a team of student first responders called BEMCO that will come help out if a person is sick, whether it be from natural causes or drugs and alcohol. That's great in any situation, but especially when students might be afraid to call an authority figure, it's a huge relief to have a peer helping out. For kids interested in medical careers, it's also a great opportunity for hands-on learning.

People will have pot at parties and will occasionally have harder stuff, but I have never come in contact with it. Drinking is pretty common, but people do not ever question people who choose not to drinkāit's no big deal.

There is not a noticeable amount of drug activity at Brandeis. It does depend on who you are around, but there are only small groups of people that choose to smoke cigarettes. Partying is not huge on this campus.

If you want it, you can probably find it. Mostly people just smoke and/or drink, but I know many people who don't at all, which is never a problem.
