College Prowler Take
The main advice when it comes to dating at Brandeis is to lower your standards. Brandeis is a school that prides itself on the “charming” awkwardness of its student body, and while there are some very attractive people on Brandeis’s campus, most of them are dating the other attractive people. Relationships at Brandeis tend to last a long time, so there is not even the hope that attractive couples will break up, which leaves a lot of rather strange and average-looking people without a partner. Sometimes it seems that the gay community has more success finding a significant other than the straight community. In terms of sex, it seems like the gay community is more sexually active than the straight community. While there must be some people having sex on campus, there are a lot of virgins who are happy to stay that way, and many super religious people cannot even touch the opposite sex. But some people certainly open up when they come to Brandeis and become more outgoing and promiscuous. Student Sexuality and Information Services supplies contraceptives to students and have quite a presence on campus, so that is proof of the existence of sexually active people. Most students complain about the guys and girls at Brandeis because they look at schools like the University of Indiana or the University of Miami and are disappointed in the comparison to Brandeis.

The guys don't present the best picks. You've got to be really into the Jewish look, and even then, the good ones are usually already taken. The rest are either the ones who lack social skills or are too busy partying and getting drunk to want relationships.

Guys fall into a few categories: hardcore Jewish, gay, taken, or "no way in hell." The typical student is from upper-middle class suburbia in New Jersey, New York, or Massachusetts. The average girl is named Rachel or Rebecca and has dark curly hair to her shoulders, which she straightens every day. The average guy is named Dan or Dave and needs to shave more often.

Guys at Brandeis are much better...
Guys at Brandeis are much better than girls. A girl who would be seen as just a cute girl at a school like UCLA is seen as the hottest girl on campus here. The selection is really quite appalling.

Brandeis students are...
Brandeis students are "awkward"—it's a self-perpetuating stereotype. Anyway, somewhere around half of the people on campus are (not necessarily all in one): a secular Jew; super liberal; from New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts; pre-med or in a social science major; and/or a bit short on the social skills. On the good side, this is a fairly tolerant campus.

Generally, the Brandeis population is slightly shorter and more Jewish than the classic college. With an "awkwardness" of our own, Brandeis students are pleasant and caring about social justice and very internationally aware. On average, the students are not very hot, but there are a lot of exceptions.

FactsBirth Control Available?
Yes - Available at the Student Sexuality Information Service (SSIS) or the Health Center. Condoms can be purchased at the market on campus.
Social Scene
Although Brandeis students may claim not to have fun, they are still social. Some of the friendliest people you'll meet go to Brandeis, and it is a very friendly campus. Of course, there is a small number of people who stick to themselves. But for the most part, Brandeis students are very friendly and enjoy hanging out together. It is not unusual to see big groups of Brandeis students wherever you go off campus.
Hookups or Relationships?
It sometimes seems that every student at Brandeis is in a serious relationship that started sometime during freshman year. Weddings between very religious underclassmen occasionally take place during Jewish holidays. Yet, there is a hookup culture, particularly among freshmen and the off-campus frats. The problem is that everyone knows everyone else, so not only will the gossip of a hookup spread like wild fire, there is a guarantee of a future awkward interaction with that person.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Lots of relationships at Brandeis start because of simple proximity. "Floorcest" is a very common phenomenon, especially during freshman and sophomore years before people are living alone with their friends in suites. As with any school, parties are the ultimate place to meet people. It is also not a terrible idea to have friends set you up with their friends, since the small campus size means you would have met them sooner or later anyway. Classes are very intense and don’t offer many options for socializing, but clubs or extracurricular activities, where people spend most of their time and effort, are another great option.
Dress Code
Because of the large religious population at Brandeis, the dress code is a little more conservative than what would be expected at a comparable school. One can clearly pick out Orthodox girls who refuse to show any skin on even the hottest days. Also, the most popular accessory for a guy is a yarmulke. In general, however, the style is pretty generic with girls wearing patterned trench coats and skinny jeans tucked into boots, and guys wearing sweatshirts and baggy jeans. The Ugg simply will not die on campus, but otherwise, most clothing seems to come from the Gap.
