College Prowler Take
Although not located in the most affluent or nicest of towns, Brandeis is mostly quiet and safe. While the rent-a-cop police officers seem incompetent at times, they actually do their jobs well. Since there is not much actual crime on campus, the cops mainly hand out parking tickets and break up parties. This safe feeling creates a sense of what is commonly called the “Brandeis Bubble,” which prompts some kids to leave their room doors unlocked—the main way that thefts occur. Thankfully, the University is slowly updating the security systems of the dorms, moving from key to card access. The blue-light system, which most colleges employ, ensures that if there is a problem, students are able to get help quickly. The University provides late-night transportation and an escort service for students who feel uncomfortable walking around at night or who need help getting home. And if the provided transportation is not enough, you can call the police, and they will drive you back if you’re out late at the Campus Center or at a friend’s dorm. Overall, this is a very safe and secure campus, as long as you’re smart and use common sense.

I get the sense that everyone feels quite safe here. For whatever reason, the BranPo, or Brandeis Police, are the butt of a lot of jokes, but they must do their job well because nothing ever gets stolen here. Lock your doors and keep track of your stuff—be sensible—but you can feel quite safe here. There's also a blue-light system, but I've never heard of anyone using it, so I don't know how effective it would actually be.

The campus has always been very safe. Campus police are more of an annoyance than a peace-keeping force-perhaps because they have no real business to occupy their time.

The campus is so safe that Public Safety has nothing better to do than break up well-contained parties. The students here are generally pretty genuine and calm, so violence is very low. The school has emergency phones nearby and a student-run EMT service.

The campus is small, well watched, well patrolled, and located in a nice, safe, fairly quiet area. The cops are generally nice—don't cause them problems, and they'll extend you the same courtesy. Most of the enforcement issues you'll run into are with Residence Life, which has taken it upon themselves to crack down on noisy parties and smoking. We also have a pretty good student EMS service, which you should consider joining, because we're awesome.

Brandeis University is just about the safest campus you will ever find. With a controlled yet fun student body, the police walk by parties without breaking them up. Nothing is really monitored, yet Brandeis continues to be safe.
