College Prowler Take

For starters, off-campus dining makes up for the sometimes sub-par on-campus dining situation. Moody Street in Waltham is not just popular for Brandeis students but also has some Zagat-rated restaurants. However, most places in Waltham and on Moody Street won’t break your piggy bank. If you’re looking for a nice night out with friends, especially for birthdays, you have two main options. You can try out Moody Street, or you can go to Boston. Moody Street features restaurants of every ethnic variety, and you can always find a place to eat here. And since it’s located in small-town Waltham, long waits are few-and-far-between; the biggest problem you’ll face is an occasional lack of parking. Asian Grill and Bison County are probably the two most popular restaurants on Moody Street for Brandeis students. And after a meal, you can go for amazing ice cream at Lizzy’s or to a movie at the closest movie theater.

Boston provides many more options for food. Harvard Square and the Prudential Building area are the two most popular places for people to go for a dinner. For a big appetite, FiRE + iCE is the best place. For smaller appetites, Dick’s Last Resort or the Cheesecake Factory are certainly great places to go for dinner. Just a heads up: If you go to dinner in Boston, you are going to either have to make reservations or wait a very, very long time.

There are a ton of good restaurants on Moody Street. You could walk there in less than 30 minutes if you know the roads, but the Waltham shuttle goes there on every run, so that's your best bet. There are a few restaurants within a five-minute walk of Brandeis, but they're all delis or pizza.

Moody Street has so many different types of restaurants. From Thai to Indian to Hispanic to Italian, you can definitely find something you'd like to eat. A lot of places are used to delivering to campus, too. Cambridge also has some great Thai food.

I eat off campus all the time. Almost all the places deliver, so you have choices of Thai, Chinese, Japanese, pizza, Italian—pretty much anything you want. Baan Thai is great, and Lily's Chinese Food is probably the best Chinese restaurant around. If you're willing to drive a bit, you can get great food at Legal Sea Foods and Bertucci's.

Indian and Thai restaurants are the best, and there are several good pizza options. It's probably not easy to walk to any of these, but you can take the BranVan to Moody Street, the main drag of Waltham, and then you'll be within walking distance of all the best restaurants, including Lizzie's for some after-dinner ice cream.

Basically, Moody Street has everything you could possibly crave, from Guatemalan to Ugandan to Thai, and usually at pretty affordable prices. Most places deliver or have a take-out menu, and if they don't, the campus van service can take you right to them.
