Not Bad

It's easy to get into a major. And you can even work around forming somewhat of your own major. They also have a lot to offer.

Waltham

Waltham has a great main drag called Moody Street with amazing ethnic food and a movie theatre that shows lots of independent films. There are plenty of good bars also. There's not much else to do, but Waltham is nearby many larger towns with malls and shopping, and is not too far from Boston as well.

A Good Investment

its pretty pricey to come here but i do feel like i'm getting an education that will get me somewhere in life. the professors are so great and are often the top of their field. The food, though we complain about it a lot, is really pretty passable for a college campus and the facilities are mostly modern. The best part is being so close to Boston and being a part of the huge college community around here. You won't regret coming.

Student Center

The recently built SCC, or main student center on campus, offers quiet places to work, Einstein's Bagel Company for snacking, and multiple rooms for use by the student body for clubs and local meetings. There is an average sized theater located inside, and a TV room, too. It's always brightly lit, and there's always the local student campus store for extra necessities.

Diversity.

The campus is very diverse ethnically. Peoples of all different races are represented. Lots of lgbt students and very accepting of those from other backgrounds. There is obviously a very large jewish population, which takes away from religious diversity to an extent. Almost everyone is on some form of financial aid or academic scholarship, so its not your normal private school. Personally, I find this annoying because everyone is always complaining about money, and is too poor to go out more than twice a month. Almost everyone is very liberal and the vast majority of students are democrats.

Psychology

I am a Psychology major at Brandeis University. Most of the professors I have had have been wonderful. They are extremely qualified and have done very interesting research. The workload can be challenging, but is definitely doable. The curriculum is interesting and there are a diverse selection of courses.

An Amazing Education

Classes are mostly small-scale, with only the introductory classes to majors having typically more than 25 students in them. Most of the professors are always available for help, and I have consistently seen them exhibit a desire for their students to do well.

Student Facilities Great

Though some buildings may be quite old, Brandeis has many buildings that can assist students with their individual needs. the gym is huge and always available for use. The library is great for getting work done. The food facilities are open most of the time.

Computer Science and Business

The beginning Programming in Java class was good. The homework wasn't overly difficult, but it gave you enough to think about, so you learned the material well. The Intro to Econ course had an amazing professor, Professor Coiner, who was very engaging and made learning a naturally dry subject enjoyable. Again, the homework wasn't overwhelming, but it was enough to make you work hard to learn the material.

Brandeis is a great school. The professors are very knowledgeable and always willing to help. For academics, there are an abundance of tutors and advisers. Extracurricular activities are wonderful, I enjoyed both the Archery Club and the Ballroom Dancing club. The best part about Brandeis is the people. You will meet a wide variety of intelligent and driven students from a diverse set of backgrounds. No matter who you are, Brandeis will be one of the most accepting schools you can find.

What Makes Brandeis Unique

The academics are on par with the Ivy League, if not better. The students at Brandeis don't mess around when it comes to academics and neither does the faculty. Student activities are VERY active, particularly the Student Union, the cultural groups and the political groups. Many of the teachers, especially in the HSSP major, work to develop students and guide them into jobs after college. The campus is not the prettiest thing the world has ever seen but it is a smaller, enclosed campus and feels like home (except for the giant bugs in East). I made life-long friends at Brandeis. I also met my wonderful boyfriend at this school freshman year.

HSSP

The HSSP major is probably the most practical and applicable major offered at Brandeis (I did the BA program, not BS). I cannot say enough great things about the major and the faculty. In particular, Professors Altman, Stimell and Curi are truly top notch educators (especially if you're interested in health policy). Due in large part to my major, I had a job in the field 3 weeks after graduation and continue to hold that position. Unlike a hard science or humanities major, HSSP drew a variety of students, which made the overall experience that much better. Professor Altman and others at Heller really believe in the major and in developing students and it shows.

Brandeis Diversity

You make your own experience at Brandeis. I grew up in an affluent Jewish suburb and knew that I wanted a more diverse group of friends in college and find this at Brandeis was not difficult.

If you want the typical Jewish experience, it is there for the taking (and quite a few people, including some of my closest friends took this route). If you only want to hang out with internationals, that's also doable. I can't say enough good things about the students from the Posse Program and the TYP Program.

My best friends were Jewish, Catholic, scattered across the socio-economic spectrum, from Latin America and Asia.

Lots of Transportation

The van on campus that goes around campus or into Waltham (the nearby town) is free, but not reliable. It comes late most of the time. The weekend shuttle into Boston is also free and is always on time. It's really convenient. There's also a train that's a reasonable price. There isn't any long distance transportation, but some breaks they offer a reasonably priced bus that's very convenient.

Friendly or Introverted

At Brandeis, I've found either people are really outgoing and friendly or shy and a little awkward. As for looks and dress, people aren't very showy and are comfortable with whatever they wear. There is always stuff to do on campus, either school sponsored or organized by clubs. There are parties at the frats almost every weekend, and it's easy to get into Boston on the weekends.

As Diverse as It Gets

One of the huge deciding factors for me in choosing Brandeis was its diverse student body. Many schools will brag about the statistics of the percentages of different racial and ethnic minorities, yet the students will self segregate themselves. Brandeis is extremely special in that all of these different types of people are extremely close knit. Students of all colors are very accepting of each other, along with warm and welcoming.

Brandeis = Academics

The academics here at Brandeis are top-notch. Academics at Bradeis, regardless of your major, are second to none. You may not always be taking the classes you want or the professors may not be the type that you would prefer BUT you are always guaranteed to learn a lot as long as you are applying yourself.
