Athletics are definitely not the biggest concern of our school's administration. The fields are awful, but the fitness center is decent despite its small size.

The school is very small, so the car can sometimes have very limited options.
College Freshman 2013-11-06T22:25:36Z
BYUH is an LDS school, so the rules regarding illegal substances and dress code are all extremely strict. Other than that, things are pretty lax.

I didn't have to do anything. They just sent me a check paying for part of my tuition without me having to do anything.

Health & Safety:
The health center isn't the most helpful place on campus, and it is difficult to get an appointment at a convenient time that doesn't conflict with class. Also, security is out to get anyone breaking the biking rules in any way, shape, or form.

Laie is a very small town, so there are only about 5 restaurants within 20 minutes of the school campus, including both fast food and delicious, family-owned businesses. Also, if you are willing to go to the next few towns over, there are meal trucks selling foods of endless cultures, from shrimp, to Korean, to Thai food. Hawaii is infamous for extremely expensive prices, but it's worth it to live in such a beautiful places.

As we are a very small school, it is not overly difficult to obtain off-campus housing. All of the available housing is conveniently close to campus, and, even more importantly, about a minute's walk from the beach. There is a grocery store and a few restaurants nearby, but the nearest clothing stores and malls will require a good drive or long bus ride. Overall, off-campus housing seems to be a good experience.

BYU Hawaii would rate as average when it comes to technology. They have great technical support and Wi-Fi is available throughout the entire campus, but it is particularly weak at times. If you want a laptop, it would be ideal to supply your own. Though the library has a computer lab and rents out laptops to students, it is much more convenient and practical to have your own.

Laie is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited, and it is truly an honor to have the privilege of attending school and living here. Since coming to BYUH, I've learned that the people of Hawaii are not carefree like they are rumored to be. They care more than anyone else, and it's always about something that matters. Back in Arizona people prioritize their stress, but here people prioritize happiness, progress, and, above all, each other. The Aloha spirit is remarkable. Not only is the attitude here wonderful, but one can pack a lifetime of experiences into a single week. Since coming here, I've surfed beside sea turtles, skydived, helped put on a half-marathon, volunteered at the Honolulu zoo, attended festivities for nearly every world culture, and more. There is no place like Laie, which I will now always consider a home of mine in my heart.

We are a religious school in the middle of the country. Any real nightlife includes the occasional house party, maybe once or twice a semester, or a friend gathering.

Some majors have it better than others. The business programs are really good with the exception of a few teachers. All generals felt like I was in high school again. Its a small school and we have so many international students so domestic students feel like they dumb down classes to help international students understand better because their English isn't that good.

My major seems really easy to those not in it but we do have some tough classes. However, it is really fun and we get to go on many field trips to visit different hospitality and tourism facilities. Many of our professors have worked in the tourism industry for over 20 years each. We have GMs, members of CVBs, and Harvard grads.

Guys & Girls:
My school has people that represent 70+ different countries so whatever your flavor, we have it.

The religious affiliation here is predominantly LDS, but there are some from other religious denominations that attend.

There are plenty of opportunities to perform live music in front of an audience here.

Some departments have problems, but overall, they are all pretty good.

Honestly, I've never stayed in the dorms, but from what I hear, they are kind of cramped and sometimes a bit hot.
College Junior 2013-09-20T07:38:11Z
The honor code is pretty strictly enforced, so if you do drugs (drinking, smoking, whatever...) you can be kicked out of school.

The campus is really beautiful (how can it not be when it's in Hawaii!), the buildings are in pretty good shape, but I have heard some of the dorms are in a bit rougher shape than others. Lots of activities and plenty of student chapters (clubs) to join!

Health & Safety:
Student safety is a top priority at Brigham Young University Hawaii. One of the ways this school helps the students stay safe is by making them agree to an honor code: students agree to not participate in the pastimes that tend to be commonplace on other university campuses. Students agree to not indulge in sex, alcohol, or drugs, and a several other standards. This university is also safe because it is located in a modern village; in other words it is located in an extremely small town. A last thing this school does to promote the safety and health of the students is providing on campus housing to the majority of the student populace as well as providing meal plans so students don't have to worry about purchasing their own food. This school truly cares for its students and would do anything to protect them from harm.
College Junior 2013-09-11T08:22:27Z
My school is the most diverse out of all the universities in America; it has representatives from over seventy different countries. Overall we everyone gets along quite well with one another, for the school promote or encourages students to share their own cultures with each other. At this school we are not forced, or socially isolated if we live life slightly different than others. The school is mostly filled with those who belong to the LDS faith, but you can still find a fair amount who do not rank within the church's numbers. These people are treated no differently than those who are active participants in the faith; the non-member's life experiences are considered equally valuable to the building of our characters. This school's diversity is a key feature to the schools greatness, and it only gives us opportunity to be more prepared for the post-graduate life that all must inevitably partake in.

If you drive it is very easy to park and plenty of room. Walking is usually safe and rarely are there car vs people wrecks.

I just change my major to Exercise and sports science therefore i am not sure yet. but the courses seem satisfy to me.

Laie is a some town. It would take me two hours to get to some other more urbanize place. But here we got every necessary things we need for food and exercise and study. The weather is always nice. Beaches are all around really close to our campus. Everything is simple and calm.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T10:59:04Z
My school have a thing called the Honor Code, which is a standard pretty close to the church standard that every students who schooling here must respect and follow. It include Dress & Grooming Standards, and other standard that can maintain the highest standards of honor, integrity, morality, and consideration of others in personal behavior.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
