Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

BYU-Idaho is very focused on practical education. The school definitely holds learning as its primary goal, which correlates with the school's mission to build an environment that cultivates disciple leaders, with an emphasis on secular learning and study.

Most BYU-I teachers are very willing to help. Unlike many universities, professors are not required to be working on getting published or continually participating in extensive research to further their academic contributions. Professors are solely responsible for teaching. The class sizes are fairly small, especially the upper-level courses. Some general courses have around 50 to 60 students, but on average, they're closer to 30 people per class.

Music Majors

The curriculum is tough and fast, but the system builds on itself, and if you are willing to put in the effort expected of you, the amount you will come to understand your subject will help you in the long run. You need the ability the test ever class period and make a million charts about music theory, as well as sight read if you want to keep up, but the reward for this is well worth it.

Class Size

I'm the type of person who learns better in a small class environment, and that's exactly what's offered at BYUI. Average class sizes are around 40-50 people and that just depends on the class you're taking. Because of the small class sizes, it's easy to build a positive relationship with your teacher, allowing for lots of discussion during or after class.
