Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When it comes to eating, the University Food Services has two major pluses: convenience in location and delicious food. For many BYU-Idaho students, there are a handful of places to eat only a walk away, but none are as close or convenient as the University. BYU-Idaho has five main locations for dining. Most are simply convenient spots for a quick meal or a snack to tie you over between classes, studying, and getting back home. Others, like the new cafeteria the Crossroads, serve students during major meal times.

Since moving and remodeling the BYU-I food court, many students have complained about meal prices. Just to give you a better idea of the University Food Services costs, the University has calculated the average amount of money spent per meal to be $5.50 to $6.50. So, while the University may charge one to two dollars for a single beverage, it is true that you could buy the same drink for a couple cents less at the grocery store. But it’s not the most expensive food option, and it may still be worth it. Look at it this way: you’re paying for convenience and time. Overall, the Crossroads is a great place to meet up with friends and grab a bite to eat from a variety of food options. Also, the school offers Dining Dollars as a way to pay for campus food. By purchasing Dining Dollars in advance, you could get a certain percentage of the cost of food items cut from their price tags.

BYU-Idaho Food Availability

On campus we have a great "food court" if that's what you want to call it. There is so much variety from chinease, italian, to the normal hamburger with fries. There's a salad bar and also dessert bar and all the food is really good and the price isn't over the top.

Cross Roads

The Cross Roads on campus is the food place to go. The food is not the greatest, but it is not the worst food I have ever tasted. It is expensive and I do not eat there very often. Usually when I go to eat it is between classes or before classes when I do not have time to go home and grab something. It is a very social like atmosphere. I would suggest going to spend time there to kill some time between classes, but I would not suggest a meal plan.

Food on Campus at Brigham Young University-Idaho

There are a variety of different types of food to eat on campus. Everything from frozen yogurt to a pulled pork sandwich. Of what I have tried, everything is pretty tasty. It can put a dent in your wallet if you plan on eating there frequently. The best place to eat on campus, at BYU-Idaho, are the bagels. They have sandwich bagels and bagels with cream-cheese, both coming in a variety of flavors. When I'm on the run, I can always find something filling and tasty to go.

Did You Know? In 2007, University Food Services decided to change their policy of open hours and close all food venues on Sunday. This is to keep the integrity of the Church's stance on participating in work on Sundays. As a result of this change, BYU-Idaho has increased the locations and ease in acquiring food. Students are encouraged to purchase the food they need for Sunday on Saturday.
